Óscar Hassenteufel has resigned from the vice presidency of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), according to reports Tuesday afternoon from Radio Fides and the Fides News Agency. The news was echoed by several national media outlets, generating uncertainty, and as of 5:00 p.m., the Supreme Electoral Tribunal had not issued an official statement on the matter.

With his resignation, the main institution responsible for administering presidential elections would be left without leadership, just 26 days before the General Elections. Weeks ago, Hassenteufel had been elected vice president of the TSE, a body that had not yet appointed a president, which meant he was serving as interim president.

This outlet was unable to obtain an official version of what happened with Hassenteufel, but it was learned from TSE sources that he is currently on medical leave.
