The prices of various products from the basic food basket in markets of the central region vary and, in some cases, have decreased compared to the 16 days of blockades that took place on different roads across the country.

This Wednesday, on the eve of the Corpus Christi holiday, on Tarapacá Street in the city of La Paz, the price of chicken per kilo is between Bs 25 and Bs 26, but it is clarified that this is the “wholesale” price, so when the product is taken to other markets, the cost increases by Bs 1 to Bs 2 for final consumer sales.

In the case of Cochabamba, Wednesdays and Saturdays are market days, and in the supply centers there is a visible offer of vegetables that were unavailable during the days of blockades, such as cauliflower and broccoli.

As for tomatoes, a crate is sold for Bs 90, while last week it cost Bs 120; a quarter crate is between Bs 14 and Bs 16, whereas before it reached up to Bs 25.

In Santa Cruz de la Sierra, at the Abasto market, a bag of “harinosa” potatoes is sold for Bs 85, an arroba of onions for Bs 75, and a kilo of tomatoes is between Bs 4 and Bs 5, depending on the size, while a crate costs Bs 15.

As for bananas, their price remains high, with a bunch offered this Wednesday at Bs 15, while a bunch of plantains exceeds Bs 80.
