The Navy will deploy special groups to reinforce security and provide medical assistance to the hundreds of pilgrims heading to the Sanctuary of Copacabana during this Holy Week.

“The surface units, with full crews, are ready to carry out lake patrols, port inspections, and search, rescue, and salvage operations throughout their area of responsibility,” reported the military institution, as cited by ABI.

The operation is being led by officers, sailors, and naval operational health personnel from the Fourth Naval District “Titicaca.”

As is tradition, starting Wednesday, hundreds of Catholic faithful will begin the approximately 139-kilometer walk over about three days to the sanctuary of Copacabana, as part of the religious celebration.

The deployment also covers the Strait of Tiquina, located between San Pablo and San Pedro de Tiquina, one of the busiest points during the pilgrimage.

It was announced that the Marine Infantry Battalion “Sixth Independence” will mobilize its medical team, which remains on permanent alert to respond to any emergency. The personnel are equipped with essential medicines such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, bandages, and wound care supplies.

“The support of the Sixth Independence reflects our commitment to the pilgrims who, driven by faith and a spirit of community, embark on this meaningful journey,” said spokespeople from the institution.

Naval authorities advised the public to follow safety measures and reminded that military personnel remain vigilant to any eventuality along the route to Copacabana.
