Who can join the pact signed by Tuto, Mesa, Camacho, and Doria Medina? Here’s what Carlos Valverde says

“There is an agreement to seek unity, to find a single candidate, to try to build a very strong candidacy. There is absolutely nothing else,” said the analyst.

From the perspective of analyst and journalist Carlos Valverde, the agreement signed by Luis Fernando Camacho, Tuto Quiroga, Samuel Doria Medina, and Carlos Mesa to unify the opposition ahead of the 2025 elections could see some figures joining the pact, while others likely will not.

“Probably, we can talk about Rubén Costas (Demócratas), who has significant strength in the eastern region, and perhaps Vicente Cuéllar (Cambio25),” Valverde said in an interview with UNITEL.

This agreement aims for a single opposition candidacy, emphasizing that it is an open commitment to which other political forces can join, with the goal of ending the cycle of masismo in government and shaping a plan to change the country’s course, according to the pact signed on Wednesday by the four political leaders.

Who would not take part in this rapprochement among opponents of masismo? Valverde suggested that Branko Marinkovic and Manfred Reyes Villa would not join, and Chi Hyun Chung would also remain out as he has little in common with the signatories of the agreement.

Valverde pointed out that Mesa, Doria Medina, Camacho, and Quiroga share a liberal stance. “They are not ultraliberals or libertarians; they are liberals. They are free-market advocates and have a republican conception of the country,” he explained.

“There is an agreement to seek unity, to find a single candidate, to try to build a very strong candidacy. There is absolutely nothing else. Tuto is a pre-candidate, Carlos Mesa is a pre-candidate, Samuel Doria Medina is a pre-candidate,” the analyst observed.
