From prison, former President Jeanine Añez demanded that MAS leader and former President Evo Morales face “his crimes without crying.”

Through her X account, the former president told Morales that “the pedophile’s and criminal issue is called statutory rape, a major crime against minors; it is called trafficking, a major crime when minors are traded in exchange for favors or any form of payment. Face your crimes, Evo Morales, without crying.”

The former president, imprisoned since 2021, recounted the legal actions against her so far: 9 proceedings in one month, 0 notifications, 1 kidnapping, 1 illegal transfer, preventive detention since March 13, 2021: 3 years and 7 months, 1 illegal splitting of prosecution, 1 illegal express trial, 4 simultaneous express trials, 1 illegal conviction.”

“That is ‘lawfare’ against a former President of Bolivia. It’s the MAS method,” Añez added, after the Puebla Group defended Morales yesterday and denounced “lawfare” against the former president over the accusations against him.

Añez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in an ordinary trial for the crimes of issuing resolutions contrary to the Constitution and failure to fulfill duties. This stems from her succession to the presidency in 2019 after Morales resigned and fled the country, accused of committing electoral fraud in that year’s elections.

Currently, Añez faces another ordinary trial for the deaths in Senkata and Sacaba, events that occurred after Morales’ resignation. Last week, former Justice Minister Iván Lima stated that the former president was subjected to a criminal trial instead of a responsibility trial due to Morales’ “whim.”
