1886: expedition to Bolivian Chaco | expedición rumbo al Chaco boliviano

From Proyecto Tuja, FaceBook:

In December 1886, an expedition departed from Sucre towards the Bolivian Chaco. Its objective: to cross the northern Chaco heading eastward to reach the banks of the Paraguay River.

Among the group was the brave Florencia de Rivero.

“We’ve struggled six times to cross this arid zone, but in vain. Our mules were dying of thirst, and we sustained ourselves with a small ration of water we carried in skins. During one of these advances, we went 56 hours without tasting water. But even if water failed us, courage did not. And once again, the Bolivians showed that for the good of the homeland, they are capable of giving up to the last drop of blood.”
