Pirates decapitated in Potosí | Piratas decapitados en Potosí

Historia y Leyenda de la Villa Imperial de Potosí – Bolivia:

“Did you know that four pirates were decapitated in the Plaza de la Villa Imperial de Potosí in 1596?”

“The pirates, allies of the most feared and famous of the Caribbean pirates, the Englishman Francis Drake, were decapitated in the Plaza de la Villa Imperial de Potosí, and their heads were impaled on stakes.”

“The pirates allied with the most feared pirate, the Englishman Francis Drake, upon learning of the destruction of the ship of the fearsome Caribbean corsair, fled from Cartagena to Quito in the year 1596. Being pursued, they fled to Lima and finally to Potosí in the same year. They stayed in the vicinity of Plazuela de la Cebada, now the Central Market. When the authorities learned of their whereabouts, they searched for them, raided their house, and after a bloody encounter, they were captured and taken to the Central Plaza or Plaza del Regocijo, where they were decapitated on April 20, 1596. Their names were Jerónimo Valdenebro, Monteargil, Juan de Caracena, and Pedro Villarubia.”
