Marisol Toledo, a Santa Cruz native among the best scientists in the world

The biologist was selected as a member of the World Academy of Sciences, an organization that brings together the best professionals in the area from about 70 countries.

If it is about achievements and contributions to society, science is one of the branches that gives Bolivia the most pride. The country’s nature is an inspiration for many scientists, who dedicate their lives to studying the flora and fauna and demonstrate why Bolivia is ranked among the most biodiverse in the world.

This year, Marisol Toledo became the pride of the country after being accepted into The World Academy of Sciences, a merit-based organization that brings together 1,000 scientists from at least 70 countries. Its main objective is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development.

Toledo’s extensive career earned her acceptance and, thus, recognition of her hard scientific work.

Toledo is a biologist by profession. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Missouri St. Louis and her doctorate from Wageningen University. While studying at the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University of Santa Cruz, she joined the Noel Kempff Mercado Natural History Museum as an ad-honorem assistant, where she gained experience in ethnobotany.

Among her merits is being part of one of the most important forestry projects in the country, Bolfor, then she served as research coordinator of the Bolivian Institute of Forestry Research, she was also executive director of the Noel Kempff Mercado Museum and is currently head of laboratories at the degree in Biology, at the UAGRM, where he has worked as a teacher since 2010.

On the academic side, her work has been presented at both national and international conferences. As a researcher, she is co-author of at least 85 publications, including scientific articles, books, book chapters, and technical papers.
