The Movimiento Al Socialismo has not been able to install the story that in 2019 there was a coup in the country. The arguments have not been enough, because millions of Bolivians know that they were in the streets protesting against the fraud that Evo Morales and his party tried to carry out; the inhabitants of this country watched as the former president and his vice president resigned, and they also watched as their constitutional successors resigned, one by one, leaving a dangerous power vacuum. But since the story is the only thing they have to avoid bearing the fraud and chaos unleashed in Bolivia, now they try to impose it the bad way, with far-fetched processes and with the demand that the members of the Episcopal Conference be summoned to testify in the Coup case.
When Bolivia was burning, the Episcopal Conference, the apostolic nuncio and diplomats from the European Union and the United Nations were the ones who prevented a civil war in the country. There were clashes in the streets between those who defended Evo Morales and those who wanted him out of the Presidency due to electoral fraud. There were burnings of private homes and a spiral of violence that was increasing. Only the mediation of these organizations and the leading role of the bishops and religious priests made it possible to restore calm to Bolivians. And now they want to summon them to testify, it is not known if as witnesses or as defendants.
The initiative belongs to Wilfredo Chávez, who is a state attorney and who uses this function to defend his ‘great boss’, Evo Morales, before the interests of Bolivia. We must not forget that this character reached the point of absurdity when he called on students to recount the votes (two years after the elections) to position the idea that there was no fraud. Of course he failed in the attempt.
Now, when Evo Morales is in trouble because Luis Arce wants to be the presidential candidate and has more power to achieve it, Chávez intends to reposition the issue of the coup to victimize the national head of the MAS and insist on the story of the coup.
And so that there is a context for national politics, one only has to look back a few decades and remember that, when Evo Morales was a cocalero leader and faced the governments of the day, it was he who asked for the mediation of the Church. He also did it when he left the Presidency and left the country, so he tweeted asking for mediators to find a way out of the national political crisis.
And those who sat down to talk at the table where the mediators were were people of the highest confidence of Evo Morales. Now, one of them says that the members of the Catholic Church do not have much to contribute if they are summoned, what she has the greatness to say is that those who helped to establish the peace talks also helped to restore calm in Bolivia.
The unfortunate thing is that Bolivia continues to look like Nicaragua, where the dictator Daniel Ortega persecutes Catholic religious just for having questions about the tyranny he exercises.
In the last hours, the bishops of Bolivia said that they will attend if they are summoned to testify. However, the least in this country is trust in justice, so the request to call them for the coup only generates indignation in the people and the conviction that the authoritarian arm intends to impose the story because it had no arguments to convince that there was a coup.
El Movimiento Al Socialismo no ha podido instalar el relato de que en 2019 hubo un golpe en el país. Los argumentos no han sido suficientes, porque millones de bolivianos saben que estaban en las calles protestando contra el fraude que intentó hacer Evo Morales y su partido; los habitantes de este país vieron cuando el exmandatario y su vicepresidente renunciaron, y vieron también cómo dimitieron, uno a uno, los sucesores constitucionales, dejando un peligroso vacío de poder. Pero como el relato es lo único que tienen para no cargar con el fraude y el caos desatado en Bolivia, ahora intentan imponerlo a la mala, con procesos tirados de los pelos y con la demanda de que los miembros de la Conferencia Episcopal sean convocados a declarar en el caso Golpe.
Cuando Bolivia ardía, la Conferencia Episcopal, el nuncio apostólico y diplomáticos de la Unión Europea y de Naciones Unidas fueron los que evitaron una guerra civil en el país. Había enfrentamientos en las calles entre quienes defendían a Evo Morales y quienes lo querían fuera de la Presidencia por el fraude electoral. Había quemas a viviendas particulares y una espiral de violencia que iba en aumento. Solo la mediación de estas organizaciones y el rol protagónico de los obispos y sacerdotes religiosos permitió devolver la calma a los bolivianos. Y ahora los quieren convocar a declarar, no se sabe si como testigos o como acusados.
La iniciativa es de Wilfredo Chávez, que es procurador del Estado y que utiliza esa función para defender a su ‘jefazo’, Evo Morales, antes que a los intereses de Bolivia. No hay que olvidar que este personaje llegó al absurdo cuando convocó a estudiantes a hacer un recuento de votos (dos años después de las elecciones) para posicionar la idea de que no hubo fraude. Por supuesto que fracasó en el intento.
Ahora, cuando Evo Morales está en problemas porque Luis Arce quiere ser el candidato a la Presidencia y tiene más poder para lograrlo, Chávez pretende reposicionar el tema del golpe para victimizar al jefe nacional del MAS e insistir en el relato del golpe de Estado.
Y para que haya contexto de la política nacional, solo hay que mirar unas cuantas décadas atrás y recordar que, cuando Evo Morales era dirigente cocalero y se enfrentaba a los gobiernos de turno, era él quien pedía la mediación de la Iglesia. También lo hizo cuando dejó la Presidencia y se fue del país, entonces tuiteó pidiendo mediadores para buscar una salida a la crisis política nacional.
Y quienes se sentaron a dialogar en la mesa donde estaban los mediadores fueron personas de la más alta confianza de Evo Morales. Ahora, una de ellas dice que los miembros de la Iglesia católica no tienen mucho que aportar si son convocados, lo que tiene la grandeza de decir es que los que ayudaron a instalar las conversaciones de paz, también ayudaron a restablecer la calma en Bolivia.
Lo lamentable es que Bolivia se sigue pareciendo a Nicaragua, donde el dictador Daniel Ortega persigue a los religiosos católicos solo por tener cuestionamientos a la tiranía que ejerce.
En las últimas horas, los obispos de Bolivia dijeron que acudirán si son convocados a declarar. Sin embargo, lo que menos hay en este país es confianza en la justicia, por lo que el pedido de llamarlos por el golpe solo genera indignación en la gente y la convicción de que el brazo autoritario pretende imponer el relato porque no tuvo argumentos para convencer de que hubo un golpe de Estado.
