Marcos Greminger, researcher and professor at the Autonomous University of Beni José Ballivián (UABJB), began an investigation after the appearance in Beni of an apparent new subspecies of Puma Yaguarundí (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) or Otter Cougar, which would distort the theory that this feline lives solitary and only socializes during the mating season.
“We want to do a study in the area where there are 11 (Pumas Yaguarundís), in order to disprove the theory that these animals live totally alone, that they look for a partner when they are in heat, only to be able to mate, then they are totally solitary, says the bibliography, but with what we are seeing this is distorted”, said Dr. Greminger, to the Environmental News Agency (ANA).

Marcos Greminger, investigador y docente de la Universidad Autónoma del Beni José Ballivián (UABJB), inició una investigación tras la aparición en Beni de una aparente nueva subespecie de Puma Yaguarundí (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) o Puma Nutria, lo que desvirtuaría la teoría de que este felino vive solitario y que solo socializa durante la temporada de apareamiento.
“Se quiere hacer un estudio en la zona donde existen 11 (PumasYaguarundís), para poder desvirtuar la teoría que se tiene que estos animales viven totalmente solos, que buscan a la pareja cuando están en celo, solamente para poder aparearse, después son totalmente solitarios, dice la bibliografía, pero con esto que estamos viendo esto se desvirtúa”, manifestó el doctor Greminger, a la Agencia de Noticias Ambientales (ANA).
