Resentment and hatred of the VP – Resentimiento y odio del vice

Pagina Siete:

Call me graduate

“What are the graduates going to teach us? They are going to teach us to steal! We can teach them, they are very lazy”. With those words, Vice President David Choquehuanca has again influenced the division of Bolivians.

Who are “they” and who are “we”, according to the VP’s speech? Apparently some are urban professionals and the others, rural peasants; that is, the trite prejudice that ignores the many grays of a reality that was never black and white.

Education, a vital task of the State, is the main weapon of personal and social liberation. An educated person does not believe fallacies such as, for earthly reasons, “the sun is going to hide and the moon is going to escape.” For this reason, plunging the people into ignorance has been the strategy of some rulers to keep them docile.

Choquehuanca has described the professionals -who must spend years between classrooms and books, sometimes overcoming great shortcomings to overcome- as “lazy” and even “thieves”. No, Mr. David, stealing is not learned at the University, but normally in the dark corridors of politics.
