“The story of a people”: they successfully presented the book on human rights violations in 2019
With the presence of representatives of civil society organizations, the book Story of a People: Human Rights and Democratic Resistance in 2019, published by the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights of Bolivia (Apdhb).
The text, through testimonies, evidences the violations of human rights that occurred before, during and after the national elections of October 20, 2019 and that led to the resignation and subsequent escape of former President Evo Morales, accused of electoral fraud. They were part of the presentation, as speakers, the sociologist and researcher Óscar Campanini, who is currently director of the Bolivian Documentation and Information Center (Cedib); the lawyer and professor Alejandro Almaraz; the social researcher Roberto Laserna; the writer, actress and professor Melita Del Carpio, and the president of the Apdhb, Amparo Carvajal. Each one of them recounted the experiences they had, at an institutional and personal level, during those dates.
“As an institution, we have had to go through evictions, lawsuits, criminalization at some point in the past. (…) In these complex times, the violence has not stopped, the violence continues and criminalization is going the same way in various parts of the country. In these complex moments, it is essential to remember everything that has happened,” said Campanini.
Carvajal explained that the book is intended to show the events that occurred in 2019, the human rights violations and the resistance of a people. “We try to tell what happened in 2019 (…). It is the truth that will set us free,” she mentioned. The book emphasizes five cardinal moments of the struggle for democracy in October and November 2019, so that the days of resistance that marked the memory of those who participated are not forgotten.
Thus, the work constitutes a “memory” of what happened that year, an alleged fraud, which began with the declaration of re-election as a human right by the Constitutional Court, ignoring the referendum of February 21, 2016.
The book will be presented tonight [03/31/2022] in Santa Cruz, the following week in Tarija, Pando and Beni.
During the event there was also a musical presentation by the duo Óscar Canelas and Mariana Bredow.
“El relato de un pueblo”: presentaron con éxito el libro sobre las vulneraciones a los DDHH en 2019
Con la presencia de representantes de organizaciones de la sociedad civil, la noche del martes se presentó en el auditorio Demetrio Canelas, del edificio Los Tiempos, el libro Relato de un pueblo: derechos humanos y resistencia democrática en 2019, publicado por la Asamblea Permanente de Derechos Humanos de Bolivia (Apdhb).
El texto, mediante testimonios, evidencia las vulneraciones a los derechos humanos suscitados antes, durante y después de las elecciones nacionales del 20 de octubre de 2019 y que derivó en la renuncia y posterior fuga del expresidente Evo Morales, acusado de fraude electoral. Fueron parte de la presentación, como oradores, el sociólogo e investigador Óscar Campanini, quien actualmente es director del Centro de Documentación e Información Bolivia (Cedib); el abogado y docente Alejandro Almaraz; el investigador social Roberto Laserna; la escritora, actriz y docente Melita Del Carpio, y la presidenta de la Apdhb, Amparo Carvajal. Cada uno de ellos contó las experiencias que vivieron, a nivel institucional y personal, durante esas fechas.
“Como institución, nos ha tocado en algún momento pasado atravesar desalojo, juicios, criminalización. (…) En estos momentos tan complejos, la violencia no ha parado, la violencia continúa y la criminalización va por el mismo camino en varios puntos del país. En estos momentos tan complejos, es fundamental recordar todo lo que ha ocurrido”, señaló Campanini.
Carvajal explicó que el libro tiene la finalidad de mostrar los acontecimientos acaecidos en 2019, las violaciones a los DDHH y la resistencia de un pueblo. “Intentamos contar lo que ocurrió en 2019 (…). Es la verdad la que nos hará libres”, mencionó. El libro hace énfasis en cinco momentos cardinales de la lucha por la democracia en octubre y noviembre de 2019, para que no se olviden las jornadas de resistencia que marcaron la memoria de quienes participaron.
Así, la obra se constituye en “una memoria” de lo ocurrido ese año, un presunto fraude, el cual comenzó con la declaratoria como derecho humano a la reelección por parte del Tribunal Constitucional, desconociendo el referendo del 21 de febrero de 2016.
El libro será presentado esta noche [31/03/2022] en Santa Cruz, la siguiente semana en Tarija, Pando y Beni.
Durante el evento también se realizó una presentación musical a cargo del dúo Óscar Canelas y Mariana Bredow.
