An indefinite strike is announced as of November 8; the MAS reproaches
Trade unionists, transporters and doctors give the government until November 7 to repeal Law 1386. The ruling party says that the strike “will be a failure.” The measure would start from November 8
The unionists and other sectors yesterday announced an indefinite national strike starting on November 8 in rejection of Law 1386, on the Strategy to Fight Against the Legitimation of Illicit Profits and Financing of Terrorism. The organizations gave the government eight days to repeal the rule. The Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) reproached the decision and announced that it will have no effect.
The executive secretary of the National Confederation of Union Workers of Bolivia, Francisco Figueroa, affirmed that, if until November 7 the Government does not annul Law 1386, they will launch a national strike from November 8. The leader said that the decision was made with sectors of transporters and doctors. Figueroa requested the collaboration of civic committees and citizen platforms to carry out the strike.
“We have decided to give a period of eight days, which expires on November 7. Otherwise we would be returning to the streets in an indefinite strike with the closure of markets and the closure of borders by all sectors,” Figueroa declared at the end of the meeting that took place in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
The extended meeting that took place yesterday had the participation of confederate long-distance, national and international carriers, in addition to the departmental chambers of transport, taxi associations and neighborhood associations.
“We must also ask all civic committees for support, the institutions that are the majority of our country to annul this mother law that harms all Bolivians,” said Figueroa, accompanied by transport leaders and doctors.
The union representative ruled out going to a dialogue called by the Government if there is no intention to repeal it. He said that they do not accept modifications or the elaboration of the regulatory decree of the norm.

Los gremialistas y otros sectores anunciaron ayer un paro nacional indefinido a partir del 8 de noviembre en rechazo a la Ley 1386, de Estrategia de Lucha Contra la Legitimación de Ganancias Ilícitas y Financiamiento al Terrorismo. Las organizaciones dieron un plazo de ocho días al Gobierno para derogar la norma. El Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) reprochó la decisión y adelantó que no tendrá efecto.
El secretario ejecutivo de la Confederación Nacional de Trabajadores Gremiales de Bolivia, Francisco Figueroa, afirmó que, si hasta el 7 de noviembre el Gobierno no anula la Ley 1386, pondrán en marcha un paro nacional desde el 8 de noviembre. El dirigente dijo que se asumió la determinación con sectores de transportistas y médicos. Figueroa pidió la colaboración de comités cívicos y plataformas ciudadanas para llevar adelante el paro.
“Hemos resuelto dar un plazo de ocho días, que fenece el 7 de noviembre. Caso contrario estaríamos volviendo a salir a las calles en un paro indefinido con cierre de mercados y cierre de fronteras a cargo de todos los sectores”, declaró Figueroa al término de la reunión que se desarrolló en Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
La reunión ampliada que se desarrolló ayer contó con la participación de los transportistas confederados de larga distancia, nacional e internacional, además de las cámaras departamentales de transporte, asociaciones de taxis y juntas de vecinos.
“También debemos pedir a todos los comités cívicos un apoyo, a las instituciones que somos la mayoría de nuestro país para que se anule esta ley madre que perjudica a todos los bolivianos”, resaltó Figueroa, acompañado de dirigentes del transporte y médicos.
El representante gremialista descartó ir a un diálogo convocado por el Gobierno si es que no existe la intención de abrogarla. Dijo que no aceptan modificaciones o la elaboración del decreto reglamentario de la norma.
