Abuses against the former president – Abusos contra la expresidenta

Manfredo Kempff, El Deber:

It is no longer possible for citizens to have to be aware of the political offensive that the MAS has mounted against former president Jeanine Áñez, whom, in addition to accusing her of a series of acts that she did not commit, now they want to entangle her with the “coup d’etat” invented by Evo Morales after his flight, in addition to trying to portray Áñez as a whistleblower about alleged coup plotters. All this, interpreting to her liking parts of a statement made by the ex-president in the cell where the masista justice has deplorably held her for three months.

The Government -the MAS naturally- has decided to challenge all the politicians who were surprised expectantly of the resignation of Evo Morales and of the succession chain that he gave up. Government ministers, parliamentarians and vice ministers now accuse Carlos Mesa, Luis Fernando Camacho, Tuto Quiroga, Samuel Doria Medina, Oscar Ortiz and some other characters of conspirators, because they need to take advantage of their power over justice to subdue them. Jeanine Áñez is already in the hands of the masistas and today they are targeting Carlos Mesa and also Luis Fernando Camacho. The others will come, as happened in Santa Cruz in 2009, when they needed to dismantle a stupid history of separatism and what they wanted was to erase the Camba opposition from the map. All this is an invention to clean up the image of a politically dispensable subject that has fallen like a black cloak on Evo Morales.

Jeanine Áñez has said something that is very true, and that is that the masistas, in order to break her, continue to charge her with crimes, making interpretations to her liking, but that, deep down, they do it to cover up her own guilt. Fourteen years of robbery and waste by the MAS are to be covered up with the eleven months of the transitional government. That smears MAS from head to toe and they want it to be forgotten. Respirators and riot control chemicals, pretending to equate them with the infamous assault on the Indigenous Fund, the phantom Tupac Katari satellite, the Chinese barges, the Falcon plane and the millionaire and useless investments that were not worth a quarter of what was paid.

From the point of view of mismanagement of resources and waste, there is no administration in the history of Bolivia that compares with that of Evo Morales. There could never be, because neither was there a government that had 100 thousand or more million dollars in cash. And there was not, in all of our history, a president like Morales, who was so histrionic and egomaniacal as to imagine that the world revolved around him. Former President Áñez was very far from all those boasts and she dedicated herself to fighting against the horrible plague that overwhelms us, to democratize the country and to pacify the spirits heated by the stoker of hatred that Morales became. However, no one doubts that she made an absurd mistake when she launched her presidential candidacy and surely she had time to regret it. She fell from heaven to hell.

Now what happens is that, with the triumph of the MAS in the last elections, those who were with their tails between their legs have come to light and have been cursing themselves obeying orders, wanting to make people believe that in November 2019 there was no fraud and that there was a coup. And they are choosing those who will wear handcuffs before their obedient prosecutors as a subtle revenge, always claiming that it is not theirs but justice, but enjoying their revenge.

Evo Morales wants to upset former President Áñez with Carlos Mesa, in an obvious intrigue. The same will mount against the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, with the intention of turning him over to the “prosecutor.” They do not want to leave any traces of what remains of that opposition of 2019. Even the Minister of Government himself, in the midst of anti-opposition hysteria, has caused a fight within the Assembly, where a figurehead MAS deputy, fired by his speech, he caused an uproar with a fellow opposition member, and ended up visibly knocked out at the foot of the front of that precinct they call the crucible of democracy.
