Bolivian guitarist Marcos Puña won the first prize at the prestigious International Guitar Competition “Miguel Llobet” in Barcelona last Sunday and was chosen among participants from nine countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America. The second place went to Serbia Ljubica Bukvic guitarist, while the third was for the Australian Jacob Cordova.
“It’s a beautiful moment I live in Bolivia and as I am very excited,” Puña said yesterday in a brief e-mail contact.
The competition is conducted under the Barcelona Guitar Festival, an event that has a lot of notoriety and performed since 1995 under the direction of Spanish teacher Eulogio Davalos. The event is held annually, includes lectures, exhibitions and a lot of concerts. In its 2011 paid tribute to the guitarist and composer Emilio Pujol, to commemorate 125 years of birth.
The jury was composed of teachers Alberto Argudo (Chair), Carlos Guinovart, Jordi Vilaprinyó, Vincens Mayol and Carlos Bonell (teacher of the Royal College of Music in London), who chose the winner out of candidates from Spain, France, Ukraine, Serbia, Australia, Thailand, Chile, Mexico and Bolivia. Also other prizes were awarded as Best Performance by Miguel Llobet the Chilean Andres Madariaga and for Barcelona Best Catalan classified Padrosa Bernat.
