Acting Director of Meteorology (Senamhi), Victor Hugo Perez, reported that this behavior is linked to climate phenomenon La Niña. He added that along with the rains, there will also be a drop in temperature between December and March 2012. “We entered the rainy season which will appear throughout the national territory and the temperatures will descend,” he said.
In the case of the department of La Paz, Perez explained that the past few weeks there was a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, but these days went down to 18 degrees. He added that for this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) the forecast is for significant rainfall and thunderstorms mainly in the eastern region. This behavior will affect the departments of Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando and regions of Chaco, Yungas of La Paz and the Chapare region of Cochabamba. In the case of the departments of La Paz, Potosi, Oruro, Cochabamba and Sucre there may be scattered pouring and thunderstorms with lower temperatures.
