Bolivia’s worker union on strike for 48 hours

The Bolivian Workers’ Union (COB) said that the 48 hour strike nationwide will commence this Thursday and end by COB Friday, October 7th.

There are two reasons for such strike, the first one is related to the additional 1% salary increase that the government should have authorized by September, now there are some groups (public workers’ unions) who are asking for 2%; the other issue is COB’s full support to the cause of the TIPNIS protest-walk group.

It will be interesting to see if this strike is fully implemented or not; COB’s leadership is not the same as twenty years ago. In any case, the productivity and business activities nationwide will have another obstacle to overcome.
