Forgiveness is over, government is back in business!

During two days, this week, current Bolivian president called for press conferences, asking for forgiveness for the violent police actions against the Tipnis group; this weekend, being sorry for the government was long over!

Government officials are back in business, promoting the so-called Judicial “elections” and finger-pointing to anyone else but themselves on the wrong way they are handling the Tipnis issue: one of the preferred target for such “delegation” or blame are the media (PAT and Unitel lead the TV channels’ list; ERBOL as the agency news and Pagina Siete as the newspaper questioned. They all hold, the preference in the attacks by the executive and legislative officials members of current political group in power.

Ministry of the Presidency, Carlos Romero; current president for the lower chamber in the now called Assembly (used to be called Congress), Hector Arze are now taking the lead for the current political party in government. They even speak of the “old right” as the source of problems they created themselves. Had they listened and respected the indigenous people, there would be no protest-walk on its way to La Paz city and the credibility and image/prestige of current president would have remained high; recovering from their last mistake when they raised the fuel prices and then retracted back in December 2010.

Tierra Foundation (Earth) reports to Los Tiempos that the marching group is passing through tense territory. This Sunday the Tipnis group reached the community of Inicua, on their way to Sapecho and Caranavi, land of the settlers. On both sides of the road that borders that community, there were a number of people who shouted name-calling and insults to the marching group, “lazy!,” “paid-by” and “why do you come with babies.”

One person even tried to take away the bow and arrows of one of the indigenous guards, fortunately nothing major happened. A number of youngsters defended the passing group, against those aggressive members of their community, “don’t bother, let them through!” were shouting. The indigenous group did not respond to the provocations.

The Tipnis group reiterated their willingness to continue walking and no meetings until they reach La Paz city.

While in Cochabamba department, over this weekend, current Bolivian president intensified its advocacy towards the Judicial “elections” and for a referendum (Cochabamba and Beni departments) to take place regarding the Tipnis road. All the logistics of current political government is aiming at a huge protest march of about 200,000 people, that would leave Patacamaya towards La Paz (100 kilometers), by October 12th.

On the one hand the government blames the Tipnis issue for placing in jeopardy the so-called “elections” and on the other promotes mobilizing 200K people so close to that event. Adding more fuel to the fire does not make any sense at all!!
