A serious issue is developing in Beni department, the following link reports that a number of rural population has been transported in an airforce plane from their communities to is Capital Trinidad. Furthermore, they are being given shelter in an army compound. The reason being an unclear struggle between two sides of their organization. I question the airforce and army participation in a conflict that is apparently a dispute to hold the power in the Campesino Federation of Beni department.
The workers union (COB) has met again and new strikes are in preparation. COB’s 41 out of 49 organizations met for over 8 hours and decided to call for nationwide marches for Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12. Main points being the rejection of the salaries being withheld by the government for the 11 days of strikes, last month. They also demand the supreme decree 846 should be annulled as it stipulates sanctions against the workers.
The COB also informed that they will be asking the International Labor Organization to take action over those withheld salaries. They also intend to gradually start a nationwide hunger strike. In two weeks they intend to reconvene in Tupiza (town in Potosi) to accord on a new date for their National Congress to take place, time in which they will elect their new Executive Committee.
