French Cyclist Descends Bolivia’s Huayna Potosí by Mountain Bike
French mountain biker Kilian Bron rode his bicycle down from the summit of Huayna Potosí in La Paz, Bolivia, at more than 6,000 meters above sea level. The French rider completed both the ascent and descent of the mountain as part of his film Mirage.
Three years after leaving unfinished business behind, Kilian Bron returned to Huayna Potosí to complete one of the most demanding projects of his career. The French rider reached an altitude of 6,088 meters on this iconic Bolivian mountain before tackling the descent on his bicycle, including glacier terrain and some of the most exposed sections of the expedition.
Adventure is the central theme of Mirage, a feature-length film of more than 75 minutes that follows Bron and his team on a journey through Argentina and Bolivia. The documentary covers everything from acclimatization and preparation to the kilometers ridden, altitude sickness, exhaustion, and the doubts that accompanied his return to a mountain that had occupied his thoughts for years.
The French athlete had already attempted to complete this objective in 2022 during the filming of his first documentary. That effort ended without achieving the planned goal, turning Huayna Potosí into unfinished business. “It has, by far, been the most demanding mission I have undertaken in recent years,” Bron explains while recalling an adventure in which he had to use crampons, ropes, a harness, and an ice axe before beginning the bike descent.
The project also featured the participation of the Cholitas Escaladoras, a group of Bolivian female mountaineers whom Bron had met during his first expedition. This time, they served as the lead guides during the ascent, adding a cultural and human dimension to the documentary that goes beyond the sporting challenge.

El ciclista francés de montaña Kilian Bron descendió en bicicleta desde la cima del nevado Huayna Potosí en La Paz, Bolivia, a más de 6.000 metros de altura. El rider francés completa el ascenso y descenso en mountain bike del Huayna Potosí, una montaña en Bolivia, para su película ‘Mirage’.
Tres años después de quedarse con la espina clavada, Kilian Bron ha regresado al Huayna Potosí para completar uno de los proyectos más exigentes de su carrera. El rider francés alcanzó los 6.088 metros de altitud de esta emblemática montaña de Bolivia antes de afrontar el descenso sobre su bicicleta, incluyendo terreno glaciar y algunos de los sectores más expuestos de la expedición.
La aventura es el eje central de ‘Mirage’, una película de más de una hora y cuarto que recorre el viaje de Bron y su equipo por Argentina y Bolivia. El documental muestra desde el proceso de aclimatación y preparación hasta los kilómetros acumulados sobre la bicicleta, el mal de altura, el cansancio y las dudas antes de regresar a una montaña que lleva años ocupando sus pensamientos.
El francés ya había intentado completar este objetivo en 2022, durante el rodaje de su primer documental. Aquella tentativa terminó sin poder completar el plan previsto y convirtió el Huayna Potosí en una cuenta pendiente. “Ha sido, con diferencia, la misión más comprometida que he hecho en los últimos años”, explica Bron al recordar una aventura en la que tuvo que progresar con crampones, cuerdas, arnés y piolet antes de afrontar el descenso en bici.
El proyecto contó además con la participación de las Cholitas Escaladoras, colectivo de montañistas bolivianas que Bron ya había conocido durante su primera expedición. En esta ocasión ejercieron como guías principales durante la ascensión, incorporando al documental una dimensión cultural y humana que va más allá del reto deportivo.
