A miner was injured during the protests that took place yesterday in downtown La Paz and, according to the version released by the Government, the injuries were the consequence of improper handling of an explosive device and not the result of Police action.
The official position was released through a video published by the Ministry of Government, which shows the miner being assisted by his companions while displaying traces of blood on his face and clothing.
According to the government statement, the incident occurred near Colón Street, amid an alleged incorrect handling of explosives within the protesting group.
“The use of dynamite and other explosive devices endangers the lives of protesters, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers, creating situations of extreme danger,” states the message released by the authorities.
The Government maintains that the audiovisual material shows that the injuries were not caused by Police intervention and that responsibility was later unsuccessfully attributed to law enforcement officers.
The Ministry of Government also stated that the use of dynamite and other explosives during protests represents a risk to demonstrators, passersby, and police personnel due to the level of danger these devices generate in urban areas.
Likewise, authorities reported that during the day, firecrackers and dynamite were used against officers deployed in control operations, in addition to material damage in different parts of downtown La Paz.
Yesterday’s events were marked by protests, clashes, and acts of violence that resulted in looting, damage to public institutions, disruptions to the cable car transportation system, and injuries to several people, including civilians, journalists, and law enforcement officers.

Un minero resultó herido durante las movilizaciones registradas ayer en el centro de La Paz y, de acuerdo con la versión difundida por el Gobierno, las lesiones fueron consecuencia de una manipulación inadecuada de un artefacto explosivo y no del accionar de la Policía.
La posición oficial fue difundida mediante un video publicado por el Ministerio de Gobierno, donde se observa al minero siendo auxiliado por sus compañeros mientras presenta rastros de sangre en el rostro y la vestimenta.
Según el comunicado gubernamental, el hecho ocurrió en inmediaciones de la calle Colón, en medio de una presunta manipulación incorrecta de explosivos dentro del grupo movilizado.
“El empleo de dinamita y otros artefactos explosivos pone en riesgo la vida de manifestantes, transeúntes y efectivos del orden, generando situaciones de extrema peligrosidad”, señala el mensaje difundido por las autoridades.
Desde el Gobierno sostienen que el material audiovisual muestra que las lesiones no fueron ocasionadas por intervención policial y que posteriormente se intentó atribuir la responsabilidad a los efectivos del orden.
El Ministerio de Gobierno sostuvo además que el empleo de dinamita y otros explosivos durante las protestas representa un riesgo para manifestantes, transeúntes y personal policial, debido al nivel de peligrosidad que generan este tipo de artefactos en espacios urbanos.
Asimismo, las autoridades denunciaron que durante la jornada se registró el uso de petardos y dinamita contra efectivos desplegados en operativos de control, además de daños materiales en distintos puntos del centro paceño.
La jornada de ayer estuvo marcada por protestas, enfrentamientos y hechos de violencia que derivaron en saqueos, daños a instituciones públicas, afectaciones al sistema de transporte por cable y personas heridas, entre ellas civiles, periodistas y efectivos del orden.
