The country’s First Lady took part in a meeting with the women of the provincial civic committees of Santa Cruz

Bolivia’s First Lady, María Elena Urquidi, stated that Bolivia needs more women to participate in “civic life” and to coordinate efforts among the country’s regions. She made these remarks during a meeting on Friday afternoon with the civic women who are part of the provincial civic committees.

“I believe that moving forward there is a great opportunity to continue strengthening a female civic leadership that not only responds to urgent needs, but also helps guide solutions. A leadership that listens, that proposes, and that manages. A leadership that knows how to defend principles, but also open paths, because Bolivia needs more women participating in civic life. It needs more women coordinating efforts among regions,” said Urquidi in her speech at the Provincial Women’s Meeting held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

At this event, which was attended by the women of the civic committees, Urquidi highlighted the presence of the civic representatives.

“The presence of the presidents of the civic committees gives this meeting even greater value because today we see here women who represent their regions, their families, and the future of Bolivia. Seeing this female strength gathered in this space is deeply inspiring and also expresses the country we want to build,” she added.

She also emphasized that civic entities, over the course of history, have not remained only at the level of discourse, but have known how to translate their commitment into concrete actions.

“Precisely for that reason, today even greater goals can be proposed. Goals that have to do with continuing to promote women entrepreneurs, both urban and rural. Not only so that they generate income, but so that they also have tools, more networks, and more possibilities to grow,” she added.

One of these goals, she said, has to do with “continuing to support young people from the provinces, their education, their opportunities, and their future,” because when youth have a horizon, an entire society is strengthened.

After her speech, Urquidi received a tipoy as a gift, which she wore with pride and danced to the rhythm of “Viva Santa Cruz.”
