Torrential rains affecting different regions of the country have triggered meteorological and hydrological alerts, raising concern over possible river overflows and road closures.

The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) reported that the situation will persist at least until the weekend, so the population is advised to take precautions and avoid traveling through risk areas.

According to the official report, a red-priority hydrological warning was issued due to rising river levels with imminent risk of overflow in several basins.

Likewise, an orange-priority alert remains in effect for possible overflows in other regions of the country.

“The orange-priority hydrological warning for rising levels with possible overflows in the Chapare, Grande, Rocha, and Mamoré river basins, as well as in La Paz, in the Irpavi, Achumani, and Choqueyapu rivers, remains in effect until the 30th (of March),” it was detailed.

Regarding weather behavior, Senamhi anticipates that rainfall will continue over the coming days, although with varying intensity depending on the region.

“Through this weekend we are still expecting rain across the entire eastern region; in the west and the valleys we are expecting some light rain, isolated showers accompanied by possible thunderstorms,” the forecast indicates.

However, a gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected starting early next week.

Authorities recommend that the population stay informed and exercise extreme caution, especially in areas near rivers at risk of overflowing, as well as to respect traffic restrictions on roads.
