An economic mission from the United States Government will visit Bolivia this week to develop a strategic evaluation agenda aimed at identifying opportunities for cooperation and investment, the U.S. Embassy in La Paz reported on Monday.

“The visit reflects Washington’s renewed interest in strengthening economic and trade ties with Bolivia, as well as in exploring new areas of technical collaboration,” the press release explains.

The delegation represents key U.S. government financing and development agencies, including the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the Department of Commerce, and the Department of State.

Business sector

The mission will hold meetings in Santa Cruz with representatives of the private business sector in order to gain first-hand insight into market dynamics and create links to promote investment. In La Paz, the delegation will meet with government authorities from the economic area and with representatives of the private sector.

“It is an honor to represent EXIM in Bolivia at this historic moment. The government of President Paz opens a unique opportunity to deepen economic ties between the United States and Bolivia. We are prepared to connect U.S. exporters with opportunities in all sectors of the Bolivian economy, from energy and infrastructure to agriculture and telecommunications,” said Mark Teubl, EXIM’s representative in the delegation, as quoted in the statement.

Investments

“Following the productive meetings last week in Washington between the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Ben Black, and Bolivia’s Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Gabriel Espinoza, we are pleased to visit La Paz and Santa Cruz to establish local relationships and explore investment opportunities,” said Ella DeBlois, DFC Regional Director of Investments.

“By mobilizing private capital, the DFC can help support strategic projects that advance shared objectives between the United States and Bolivia. We look forward to engaging in dialogue with the Government of Bolivia and the business community in the coming days,” she added.

The central purpose of the mission is to carry out an assessment of the country’s commercial situation and identify areas with potential for investment, bilateral cooperation, and joint initiatives.
