The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs released on Tuesday a joint declaration — endorsed by nine governments — congratulating Rodrigo Paz on his election victory and stating their willingness to cooperate on the economic, security, and wide-ranging challenges the new administration must face. It also expresses the intent to deepen their commitments.

“We proudly join regional leaders in congratulating president-elect Rodrigo Paz on his election in Bolivia,” reads part of the statement shared on social media by the U.S. Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.

One of the opening paragraphs specifies that the declaration has been coordinated with the governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States of America.

The document states that the nine governments congratulate the Bolivian people on the electoral process and the change of cycle taking shape with the election.

On October 19, the Bolivian people made their voice heard decisively. This result reflects the will of the Bolivian people to embrace change and chart a new course for their nation and our region, marking a departure from the economic mismanagement of the past two decades,” the declaration states.

The document adds that the nine governments are prepared to support the efforts that the Paz administration undertakes “to stabilize Bolivia’s economy and open it to the world, strengthen its democratic institutions, boost international trade and investment, and deepen its engagement with regional and global partners across a wide range of important issues.”

“We are committed to working closely with president-elect Rodrigo Paz Pereira and his government to advance the shared goals of regional and global security, economic prosperity, and growth that benefit all our nations,” the document states.
