NAABOL reported that landing and arrival operations are proceeding normally. Passengers were evacuated until the incident inside the facilities was brought under control.

NAABOL, Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports, issued a statement regarding the fire that broke out at Viru Viru International Airport. In its announcement, it stated that “air operations for landing and arrival of passengers are being carried out with absolute normality, without posing any risk to their safety.

Regarding the origin of the fire, NAABOL explained that at 5:20 a.m., smoke was detected in a restaurant located in the main passenger hall. The smoke spread to the national pre-boarding area.

The agency indicated that after the smoke was reported inside the facilities, the COE and airport security protocols were activated to evacuate passengers and users with the help of the Bolivian Police. Likewise, passenger check-in was temporarily suspended due to the power outage.

Security operations and firefighters were deployed inside the airport. NAABOL stated that its Fire and Rescue Service (SSEI) intervened to inspect the sector and bring the incident under control.

According to the statement, no material or personal damages have been reported.
