NAABOL reported that landing and arrival operations are proceeding normally. Passengers were evacuated until the incident inside the facilities was brought under control.
NAABOL, Bolivian Air Navigation and Airports, issued a statement regarding the fire that broke out at Viru Viru International Airport. In its announcement, it stated that “air operations for landing and arrival of passengers are being carried out with absolute normality, without posing any risk to their safety.”
Regarding the origin of the fire, NAABOL explained that at 5:20 a.m., smoke was detected in a restaurant located in the main passenger hall. The smoke spread to the national pre-boarding area.
The agency indicated that after the smoke was reported inside the facilities, the COE and airport security protocols were activated to evacuate passengers and users with the help of the Bolivian Police. Likewise, passenger check-in was temporarily suspended due to the power outage.
Security operations and firefighters were deployed inside the airport. NAABOL stated that its Fire and Rescue Service (SSEI) intervened to inspect the sector and bring the incident under control.
According to the statement, no material or personal damages have been reported.

NAABOL informó que las operaciones de aterrizaje y llegada se desarrollan con normalidad. Los pasajeros fueron evacuados hasta que se controló el siniestro dentro de las instalaciones.
NAABOL, Navegación Aérea y Aeropuertos Bolivianos, lanzó un comunicado referido al incendio que se registró en el aeropuerto internacional Viru Viru. En su pronunciamiento, indicó que “las operaciones aéreas para el aterrizaje y llegada de pasajeros se desarrollan con absoluta normalidad, sin presentar riesgo alguno para la seguridad de los mismos”.
Sobre el origen del incendio, NAABOL explicó que, a las 05:20, se detectó humo en un restaurante, ubicado en el Hall principal de pasajeros. El mismo se expandió hasta la zona de preembarque nacional.
La entidad indicó que, tras reportarse el humo en las instalaciones, se activó el COE y los protocolos de seguridad del aeropuerto para evacuar a los pasajeros y usuarios con la ayuda de la Policía boliviana. Asimismo, el check in para pasajeros se suspendió temporalmente, debido al corte de energía eléctrica.
Se desplegaron operativos de seguridad y bomberos dentro de las instalaciones del aeropuerto internacional. NAABOL señaló que el personal de Servicio de Salvamento y Extinción de Incendios (SSEI) de NAABOL intervino para realizar la inspección respectiva al sector y controlar el incidente.
Según el comunicado, no se han registrado daños materiales ni personales.
