Commemorating that event, a reenactment was held yesterday at the Casa de la Libertad.
The commemoration of the bicentennial of Bolivia’s declaration of independence entered its final stage this Thursday [7/10/2025], with the remembrance of the 200th anniversary of the installation of the General Assembly of Deputies of the Provinces of Upper Peru, which would lead to the founding of our country.
The Assembly met by virtue of the decree of February 9, 1825, issued by Grand Marshal Antonio José de Sucre. That document had set April 19 as the start date of the sessions and Oruro as the venue, but events in those months led to changes in both the date and location. Therefore, it met in Chuquisaca on July 10, 1825.
To commemorate this important historical episode, a reenactment of the inaugural session was held this Thursday at the Casa de la Libertad. Following a presentation by historian Norberto Torres, the inaugural speech by José Mariano Serrano was heard, performed by an actor.
THE MEETING
A total of 39 deputies met on July 10, and not on July 1, as has been repeatedly published. The error stems from the fact that, in those years, ordinal numbers were written with the abbreviations “o” and “a” placed above the number, so if it was 1 (one), an “o” would be placed above to make it 1º (first); but if the number was 10, the zero was placed below the number 1, appearing as 1o.

Conmemorando ese episodio, ayer se realizó una recreación en la Casa de la Libertad.
La conmemoración del bicentenario de la declaración de independencia de Bolivia ingresó a su recta final este jueves [10/7/2025], cuando se recordó los 200 años de instalación de la Asamblea General de Diputados de las Provincias del Alto Perú que derivaría en la fundación de nuestro país.
La Asamblea se reunió en virtud al decreto del 9 de febrero de 1825, emitido por el gran mariscal Antonio José de Sucre. Ese documento había fijado el 19 de abril como fecha de inicio de sesiones, y a Oruro como sede de la reunión, pero los acontecimientos de esos meses motivaron que se modifique fechas y lugar. Por tanto, se reunió en Chuquisaca el 10 de julio de 1825.
Para conmemorar este importante episodio histórico, este jueves se realizó una recreación de la sesión inaugural, en la Casa de la Libertad. Tras la presentación del historiador Norberto Torres, se escuchó el discurso inaugural de José Mariano Serrano, que fue ejecutado por un actor.
LA REUNIÓN
Un total de 39 diputados se reunieron el 10 de julio, y no el 1º de julio, como se ha publicado reiterativamente. El error se debe a que, en aquellos años, los números ordinales se escribían poniendo las abreviaturas “o” y “a” en la parte superior del número, así que, si era 1 (uno) se le ponía la “o” en la parte superior para convertirlo en 1º (primero); pero, si el número era 10, el cero se ponía en la parte inferior del número 1, que quedaba así: 1o.
