Pando’s Departmental Secretariat for Mother Earth is preparing activities for Thursday, May 22, Jaguar Day, with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of conserving this endangered species and its vital role in ecosystems.

“We seek to promote the conservation of the jaguar, a feline that is part of the Amazonian identity. The jaguar is a vital species for the proper functioning of ecosystems and also an indicator of forest health,” emphasized the Secretary for Mother Earth, Homaly Flores, in an interview with Bolivia TV.

In 2024, the Departmental Assembly declared the jaguar as Pando’s natural heritage and established the celebration of Jaguar Day every May 22. The initiative aims to highlight the importance of this majestic species and its environment.

Among the activities to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting this species, the dissemination of the departmental law is planned.

The jaguar is of vital importance to Bolivia, to the ecological system, and also as a symbol of cultural identity. Its role as a top predator helps maintain ecosystem balance, while for indigenous communities, it is a symbol of strength and connection with nature, making its conservation a fundamental task for protecting the Bolivian Amazon.
