Bolivian ranks 7th in the top 100 best electronic music productions

Bolivia is making its way into electronic music production. Ricardo Nicolás Martínez Portugal, a student of the Sound Engineering program, secured seventh place in the top 100 most outstanding compositions worldwide.

The talented 27-year-old, born in La Paz, is building a promising future in electronic music.

Beatport, a platform specialized in the sale and distribution of electronic music for DJs, included Nicolás among its top producers.

Beatport is considered “the international hub for dance music and culture.” This site offers the most extensive catalog of electronic compositions in the world, featuring the latest tracks by the top DJs and artists in the genre.

Those professionally involved in electronic music use Beatport to get the latest dance tracks for their mixes and live performances.

On that platform, the ranking is determined by downloads, and clearly, the Bolivian Nicolás’s production is currently one of the favorites.

“Reaching seventh place is pretty impressive. (…) It was hard for me to process,” Nicolás told us with great humility.

HISTORY

In the beginning, Nicolás recorded guitar, drums, and piano, but kept his creations to himself. However, things changed when he found the necessary drive from his mentor, his professor in the Sound Engineering program at UNITEPC and producer Enrique Calveti, who encouraged him and helped him improve his productions.

Calveti, a well-known figure in the world of electronic music, also connected him with major record labels.

One of those labels was “SMR Underground,” an Italian record company with which Nicolás released his most prominent track — the one that reached the top seven.

HIS STORY

Currently, Nicolás is in the seventh semester of Sound Engineering at UNITEPC.

He told us that from a young age, he showed a strong affinity for music, which led him to connect with Sound Engineering, a program that, in his words, had always fascinated him.

Now, one of his next aspirations is to perform at the university electronic music festival, organized by UNITEPC, to showcase the musical talent of young people.
