Take precautions, as an “orange” alert warns that the “persistence and intensity of the rains indicate the possibility of river overflows in the coming hours.”

An orange hydrological alert for rains and “possible overflows” of rivers is in effect in eight of the nine departments of the country.

Through a statement, the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) detailed that the alert began yesterday and will last until Friday, December 27. Take precautions, as an “orange” alert indicates that the “persistence and intensity of the rains suggest the possibility of river overflows in the coming hours.”

DEPARTMENTS

Unlike the rest of the country, in Tarija, the alert will be in effect from December 24 to 26, affecting seven rivers, including the Pilcomayo and Guadalquivir.

In Chuquisaca, the alert will begin on December 22 and last until the 26th. Nine rivers from the Pilcomayo, Parapetí, and Grande basins may overflow.

For Potosí, Senamhi predicts that nine rivers and the San Antonio and Remedios streams may experience overflows from December 19 to 27.

Among all, Cochabamba and La Paz are the departments with the most rivers at risk. In Cochabamba, the statement mentions likely overflows in 19 rivers, including those in the Tropics, as well as the Rocha and Taquiña rivers. Meanwhile, in La Paz, 20 rivers are being monitored.

In Santa Cruz, the alert specifies that 11 rivers are at risk; in Beni, seven; and in Pando, four.
