La Paz – The Vice Ministry of Tourism has launched the International Paragliding Championship, Pre-Paragliding World Cup XC La Paz 2024, an event that will take place from tomorrow, Sunday, until Saturday, August 31, in the municipality of Mecapaca, La Paz department. This is the first time the event is being held in Bolivia.

“The municipality of Mecapaca is a certified area for paragliding flights, which is why the organizers have chosen this location as the appropriate site for the pre-World Cup tests,” said Iván Cahuaya, director of the “Conoce Bolivia” program.

According to a report, the Pre-Paragliding World Cup will be held in Mecapaca from August 25 to 31 to promote adventure tourism, and the public is invited to this sporting event.

The event will bring together male and female champion pilots from Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, and Germany, who will compete for the podium and earn points for the world paragliding ranking and qualification for the World Cup.

The competition discipline is called Cross Country – Race to Goal, a distance flying modality in which specific circuits are established each day, and competitors must complete them in the shortest possible time, similar to a “special” navigation stage of the Dakar Rally.

The designation of PrePWC (Paragliding World Cup) means it is an official qualifying stage, where all competitors will earn ranking points for a world cup.

The paragliding world cup consists of five stages and a Super Final each year, where the best pilots in the world, who have demonstrated their talent and experience in qualifying events like the PrePWC, participate. This is the first time it is being held in Bolivian territory.

“The event represents significant support for Bolivian athletes, allowing them to progress in their sports careers without the need to spend large sums of money traveling to other countries where qualifying pre-world cups are also held.”
