Senamhi extends Orange Alert in Bolivia until April 14 due to potential river overflow.

According to Senamhi’s report, “new progressive and in some cases sudden rises in water levels are anticipated, with potential overflow in the basins of the Pilcomayo, Guadalquivir, Bermejo, Parapetí, Grande, Piraí, Yapacaní, Ichilo, Chapare, and Caine rivers.”

The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) has extended the Orange Alert until April 14 due to potential river overflow in all nine departments of Bolivia.

According to Senamhi’s report, “new progressive and in some cases sudden rises in water levels are anticipated, with potential overflow in the basins of the Pilcomayo, Guadalquivir, Bermejo, Parapetí, Grande, Piraí, Yapacaní, Ichilo, Chapare, Caine, Mizque, Beni, La Paz, Madre de Dios, and Tahuamanu rivers.” In La Paz department, rising water levels are expected in the upper and lower basins of the La Paz River, affecting the La Paz, Irpavi, Choqueyapu, Orkojahuira, Achumani, and Achocalla rivers.

Likewise, increases in water level are forecasted for the upper basins of the Beni and Madre de Dios rivers in the northern and Yungas regions, as well as in rivers in the altiplano region.

Similarly, an increase in water flow is predicted in the Pilcomayo, Bermejo, and Guadalquivir river basins in Tarija.

In Chuquisaca, the alert is in effect for the Grande, Pilcomayo, and Parapetí river basins.

Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz, potential overflow is alerted for the Parapetí, Mamoré, Itenez, Paraguá, Tucabaca, Curichi Grande, and Cáceres river basins.

In Cochabamba, rises in water levels are expected in the Caine, Rocha, Chapare, Mizque, and Ichilo river basins.

In Potosí, alerts are issued for the Alto Pilcomayo, Tumúsla, and San Juan del Oro rivers, and in Beni for the middle basin of the Mamoré River.

In Pando, the alert applies to the Acre, Madre de Dios, Tahuamanu, and Abuná river basins, while in Oruro, it concerns the Desaguadero and Lauca basin.
