The Saborearte Chiquitos Route is a private initiative that incorporates the public and private attractions of San José de Chiquitos. This route is part of a tourist circuit, next to the Santa Cruz La Vieja Museum, which promotes the Chiquitana area.
Rubens Barbery Knaudt, president of the Center for Participation and Sustainable Human Development (Cepad), explained that the Saborearte Chiquitos Route is the only private and sustainable venture that highlights the local.
Cepad, one of the institutions behind the Santa Cruz La Vieja Museum, also supported the construction of the Saborearte Route.
“It is made up of the Asociación Josesana Sabor y Arte (Ajosa) and includes the tourist attractions, both public and private, that exist in San José de Chiquitos. This route must be one of the few initiatives, I don’t know of another, that mixes food heritage with culture, as well as nature”, explained Barbery.
Also, he pointed out the local initiatives that are worked by local people and value “their knowledge and flavors” that they have been managing for many years.
For example, he continued, you can visit Juanita Tomichá, owner of the La Siesta del Posoka pascana, who knows how to make rice bread as her ancestors did. “She tells the process and engages the visitor to see how traditional rice bread is made,” Barbery said.
Other ventures that are within the route are: the ecological trail that crosses the dry forest of Chiquitano to the La Montañeta viewpoint. This walk is guided by a specialist who tells the visitor the importance of conserving this natural space, as well as its flora and fauna.
The list of places continues with the Chiquitos workshop school, the El Telar pascana, the Casa del Bastón, the Chiquitos Cultural Space and the La Pauroca craft center, among others.
“The route is as if you had a menu of tourist products and that according to your preferences, in addition to your budget, you can choose to visit,” said the Cepad representative, noting that the route is available throughout the year.

La Ruta Saborearte Chiquitos es una iniciativa privada que incorpora los atractivos públicos y privados de San José de Chiquitos. Este trayecto forma parte de un circuito turístico, junto al Museo Santa Cruz La Vieja, que promociona la zona chiquitana.
Rubens Barbery Knaudt, presidente del Centro para la Participación y el Desarrollo Humano Sostenible (Cepad), explicó que la Ruta Saborearte Chiquitos es el único emprendimiento privado y sostenible que resalta lo local.
Cepad, una de las instituciones impulsoras del Museo Santa Cruz La Vieja, también apoyó a la construcción de la Ruta Saborearte.
“Lo conforma la Asociación Josesana Sabor y Arte (Ajosa) e incluye los atractivos turísticos, tanto públicos como privados, que existen en San José de Chiquitos. Esta ruta debe ser de las pocas iniciativas, no conozco otra, que mezcla el patrimonio alimentario con el cultural, además de la naturaleza”, explicó Barbery.
También, señaló las iniciativas locales que son trabajadas por personas del lugar y ponen en valor “sus saberes y sabores” que manejan desde hace muchos años atrás.
Por ejemplo, prosiguió, se puede visitar a Juanita Tomichá, propietaria de la pascana La Siesta del Posoka, quien sabe hacer pan de arroz como lo hacían sus antepasados. “Ella cuenta el proceso y hace participar al visitante para que vea cómo se hace el pan de arroz tradicional”, dijo Barbery.
Otros emprendimientos que están dentro de la ruta son: el sendero ecológico que cruza el bosque seco chiquitano hasta el mirador La Montañeta. Este paseo es guiado por un especialista que narra al visitante la importancia de conservar este espacio natural, además de su flora y fauna.
La lista de lugares sigue con la escuela taller de Chiquitos, la pascana El Telar, la Casa del Bastón, el Espacio Cultural Chiquitos y el centro artesanal La Pauroca, entre otros.
“La ruta es como si tuvieras un menú de productos turísticos y que uno de acuerdo a sus preferencias, además del presupuesto, puede elegir visitar”, dijo el representante de Cepad y destacó que la ruta se encuentra disponible durante todo el año.
