After Martín Choque removed the chair in which Evo Morales was going to sit on the stage, Evism has shown what it is made of: intolerance, violence, persecution, resentment, revenge and irrationality.
Martín Choque was the secretary of culture of the Uncía Mayor’s Office, but last week he was forced to resign, after he blew up the chair in which Evo Morales was going to sit at a cultural event, in which he intended to politically campaign.
But, the resignation is nothing compared to everything that Choque had to go through after that incident. First, he was brutally beaten and then his wife was also whipped, losing the baby she was expecting, according to Choque’s own complaint.
The spouses had to flee and go into hiding to save their lives. They then traveled to La Paz, where they received medical attention under the protection of the Ombudsman’s Office.
But the evismo’s fury did not end there, rather the members of an ayllu reached the Uncía City Hall, took the officials hostage and left them without food for two days and two nights, demanding that Choque retract his criticism to Morales and that he be dismissed from office.
This succession of events shows that the followers of Evo Morales are not willing to lose their privileges and that, to preserve it, they are capable of committing the most cruel violations of human rights.
On the other hand, it is one more confirmation that the internal division of the MAS is structural, that it does not only remain in the leadership or in the rhetoric. On the contrary, it has reached the bases, where the speeches are turning into kicks, punches, whippings and kidnappings.
The fact also confirms that Evo Morales is losing the support of the indigenous people, who made up his hard core, along with the coca growers and other social sectors. Wherever he goes, Evo Morales is the cause of controversy, discord and even fights, which means that he is no longer the undisputed leader of the MAS among the indigenous people.
This event is not the only one nor will it be the last, so both Evo Morales as head of the MAS and Luis Arce as president of the State must be aware that their political confrontation could lead to a fratricidal fight with painful consequences.
So far neither of them has said a word to lower the tension in Uncía. Most likely, Morales is satisfied with the rebuke that Choque received, but the question is what prevents Arce from speaking out to guarantee the safety of those persecuted.
Luego de que Martín Choque retirara la silla en la que Evo Morales iba a sentarse en la tarima, el evismo ha mostrado de lo que está hecho: intolerancia, violencia, persecución, resentimiento, venganza e irracionalidad.
Martín Choque era el secretario de cultura de la Alcaldía de Uncía, pero la semana pasada fue obligado a renunciar, luego de que hiciera volar del escenario la silla en la que Evo Morales iba a sentarse en un evento cultural, en el que pretendía hacer campaña política.
Pero, la renuncia es nada frente a todo lo que Choque tuvo que pasar luego de ese incidente. Primero, fue brutalmente golpeado y luego su esposa también fue chicoteada llegando a perder el bebé que estaba esperando, según la denuncia del propio Choque.
Los esposos tuvieron que huir y declararse en la clandestinidad para salvar la vida. Luego viajaron a La Paz, donde recibieron atención médica bajo la protección de la Defensoría del Pueblo.
Pero, la furia del evismo no terminó ahí, sino que los integrantes de un ayllu llegaron hasta la Alcaldía de Uncía, tomaron como rehenes a los funcionarios y los dejaron sin comida durante dos días y dos noches, exigiendo que Choque se retracte de sus críticas a Morales y que sea despedido del cargo.
Esta sucesión de hechos pone de manifiesto que los seguidores de Evo Morales no están dispuestos a perder sus privilegios y que, por preservarlo, son capaces de incurrir en las más crueles violaciones de derechos humanos.
Por otro lado, es una constatación más de que la división interna del MAS es estructural, que no sólo se queda en los liderazgos ni en la retórica. Por el contrario, ha llegado a las bases, donde los discursos se están convirtiendo en patadas, puñetes, chicotazos y secuestros.
El hecho también confirma que Evo Morales está perdiendo el apoyo de los indígenas, que integraban su núcleo duro, junto a los cocaleros y otros sectores sociales. Donde va, Evo Morales es motivo de polémica, discordia y hasta de pelea, lo que significa que ha dejado de ser el líder indiscutible del MAS entre los indígenas.
Este hecho no es el único ni será el último, por lo que tanto Evo Morales como jefe el MAS y Luis Arce como presidente del Estado deben estar conscientes de que su enfrentamiento político puede derivar en una pelea fratricida de dolorosas consecuencias.
Hasta ahora ninguno de los dos ha dicho una palabra para bajar la tensión en Uncía. Lo más probable es que Morales esté satisfecho con la reprimenda que recibió Choque, pero la pregunta es qué le impide a Arce pronunciarse para garantizar la seguridad de los perseguidos.
