Mention will be made of the excesses committed against the work of the press and the threats to the media through testimonies and documented evidence that support the complaint.
The National Committee in Defense of Democracy (CONADE) and twenty-two other Bolivian civil society organizations submitted a request for a hearing to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), in order to denounce the serious violations of human rights carried out by the government of the president, Luis Arce Catacora, and the Movement for Socialism (MAS).
The note addressed to the president of this instance, Julissa Mantilla Falcón, demands the application of concrete and effective actions by this international organization to curb State terrorism that is implemented in Bolivia, for which each institution will present documented information on what referred.
“We will demand the visit of all the commissioners of the IACHR to Bolivia, to verify the situation of the people who died by direct action of State agencies; the actions of parastatal groups; imprisonment and wrongful prosecution; the violation of the commitments and recommendations of the GIEI and other international human rights bodies and the United Nations system,” says part of a statement issued by the entity that defends democracy.
In this regard, Manuel Morales, CONADE spokesman, explained that the letter requesting a hearing was presented at the IACHR offices in the city of Washington.
He added that a special mention will be made of the excesses committed against the work of the press and the threats to the media through testimonies and documented evidence that support this complaint. “We are going to insist on this line and we hope to have systematic and documented documentation to incorporate all the violations of the rights of press workers, the threats to the media that are well documented,” he said.
In addition, he informed that the Conade has decided to continue with the mobilizations in defense of democracy, citizen rights and in demand for transparency and reliability in the next electoral process.
“This is a year where the mobilizations are going to be much larger than the past administration because we have the judicial elections on our heads,” he said.

El Comité Nacional en Defensa de la Democracia (CONADE) y otras veintidós organizaciones de la sociedad civil boliviana, presentaron una solicitud de audiencia a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH), con la finalidad de denunciar las graves vulneraciones a derechos humanos que realiza el gobierno del presidente, Luis Arce Catacora, y el Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS).
La nota dirigida a la presidenta de la de esta instancia, Julissa Mantilla Falcón, exige la aplicación de acciones concretas y efectivas de este organismo internacional para frenar el terrorismo de Estado que se implementa en Bolivia, para lo cual cada institución presentará información documentada de lo referido.
“Exigiremos la visita de todos los comisionados de la CIDH a Bolivia, para verificar la situación de las personas que murieron por acción directa de organismos del Estado; el accionar de grupos paraestatales; el encarcelamiento y procesamiento indebido; la vulneración a los compromisos y las recomendaciones del GIEI y otras instancias internacionales de derechos humanos y del sistema de Naciones Unidas”, señala parte de un comunicado emitido por el ente defensor de la democracia.
Al respecto, Manuel Morales, vocero del CONADE, detalló que la carta solicitando una audiencia fue presentada en las oficinas de la CIDH en la ciudad de Washington.
Agregó que se hará una mención especial a los excesos cometidos contra la labor de la prensa y las amenazas a medios de comunicación mediante testimonios y pruebas documentadas que respaldan esta denuncia. “Vamos a insistir en esta línea y esperamos tener documentación sistemática y documentada para incorporar todas las vulneraciones a los derechos de trabajadores de la prensa, las amenazas a medios de comunicación que están bien documentadas”, indicó.
Además, informó que desde el Conade se ha decidido continuar con las movilizaciones en defensa de la democracia, los derechos ciudadanos y en demanda de transparencia y confiabilidad en el próximo proceso electoral.
“Este es un año donde las movilizaciones van a ser mucho mayores que la gestión pasada porque tenemos las elecciones judiciales sobre la cabeza”, sostuvo.
