Carolina Ribera Áñez, daughter of former president Jeanine Áñez, denounced that the government of Luis Arce Catacora will spend a second Christmas “with political prisoners”, and regretted that more than 150 families will spend with an empty chair at their tables, due to the imprisonment of their loved ones.
“The Government of Luis Arce will celebrate its second Christmas with political prisoners. The inhuman and autocratic regime has kidnapped, imprisoned, accused, charged, prosecuted and sentenced more than 150 people without the right to the presumption of innocence, work, family, life and health,” Ribera denounced through a video posted on her twitter website account.
She expressed that Christmas Eve will be spent without the company of her mother, of whom she affirmed, she does not have the right to visit because she is “tried by political power.”
The former president’s daughter called on families who suffer injustice with a loved one in prison to resist and not faint, because she assures that as long as there is life, there is hope.
“This injustice will end and the jailers who commit these abuses and arbitrariness will be judged by an impartial, transparent and true justice that they have denied us,” said Ribera.
Jeanine Áñez was apprehended on March 12, 2021 in Trinidad and transferred to La Paz, accused of three crimes: sedition, conspiracy and terrorism. The first two were expelled from the Penal Code and the third offense is the one that cannot be proven by the Prosecutor’s Office and by private attorneys for the accusing party, the defense attorney said.
The former president has been detained since March 14, 2021 for the ‘coup I’ case and on November 16 of this year the court once again determined to extend that condition until February 2023.

Carolina Ribera Áñez, hija de la expresidenta Jeanine Áñez, denunció que el gobierno de Luis Arce Catacora pasará una segunda Navidad “con presos políticos”, y lamentó que más de 150 familias pasarán con una silla vacía en sus mesas, debido al encarcelamiento de sus seres queridos.
“El Gobierno de Luis Arce cumplirá su segunda Navidad con presos políticos. El régimen inhumano y autócrata ha secuestrado, encarcelado, imputado, acusado, procesado y sentenciado a más de 150 personas sin derecho a la presunción de inocencia, al trabajo, familia, vida y salud”, denunció Ribera a través de un video publicado en su cuenta de Twitter.
Expresó que la Nochebuena la pasará sin la compañía de su mamá, de quien afirmó, no tiene derecho a la visita porque está “ajusticiada por el poder político”.
La hija de la expresidenta llamó a las familias que sufren injusticia con un ser querido preso, a que resistan y no desmayen, porque asegura que mientras hay vida, hay esperanza.
“Esta injusticia se terminará y los carceleros que cometen estos abusos y arbitrariedades serán juzgados por una justicia imparcial, transparente y verdadera que nos han negado”, dijo Ribera.
Jeanine Áñez fue aprehendida el 12 de marzo de 2021 en Trinidad y trasladada hasta La Paz, acusada de tres delitos: sedición, conspiración y terrorismo. Los dos primeros fueron expulsados del Código Penal y el tercer delito es el que no puede ser probado por la Fiscalía y por abogados particulares de la parte acusadora, relató el abogado defensor.
La exmandataria se encuentra detenida desde el 14 de marzo de 2021 por el caso ‘golpe I’ y el 16 de noviembre de este año la justicia nuevamente determinó ampliar esa condición hasta febrero de 2023.
