Hard day of violence in Santa Cruz
- A contingent of 300 police officers arrived in the municipality, used tear gas indiscriminately, left several injured and arrested more than 15 citizens who support the strike.
- Through presidential spokesman Jorge Richter, the government called the president of the Civic Committee of Santa Cruz, Rómulo Calvo, to dialogue, which did not prosper due to the confrontations.
The conflict over the census registered yesterday a hard day of violence due to the confrontation, which lasted more than 6 hours, between groups related to the Movement for Socialism (MAS) with the residents of the municipality of La Guardia in Santa Cruz and these were repressed by hundreds of police, leaving a balance of several injured and the arrest of 15 citizens who support the strike.
It all started in the afternoon hours when both sides staged incidents with firecrackers and stones. Several streets, especially the double lane towards the municipality of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, were the places where the brawls were recorded.
The climate of tension rose amid the gasification, due to the excessive use of chemical agents to repress the inhabitants of La Guardia, operated by more than three hundred policemen, a situation that inflamed the inhabitants and demanded the release of those arrested.
During the night there was a call from the Government for a dialogue with the representatives of the Inter-institutional Committee of Santa Cruz in search of a solution to the conflict that reached the 11th yesterday, the same one that did not prosper due to the climate of violence.
At nightfall, for 8:15 p.m., the Government scheduled a meeting with the Interinstitutional Promoter Committee of Santa Cruz due to the conflict to discuss the definition of the date of the National Population and Housing Census.
Presidential spokesman Jorge Richter reported that contact was made with representatives of Santa Cruz institutions to set up the meeting, which will be held at the Directorate for Support for the Prevention of Drug Use, Control of Illicit Traffic in Controlled Substances and Excess Coca (Diprevcon), located in the capital of Santa Cruz.
On the other hand, the president of the Civic Committee for Santa Cruz, Rómulo Calvo, affirmed that they would not attend the dialogue with the Government due to the conflict of the National Population and Housing Census, as long as the police repression persists in the municipality of La Guardia.
“Before starting any dialogue table, the police repression and the repression of people who have come from another department to want to intimidate and subjugate the people of Santa Cruz must end,” said the civic leader.

Dura jornada de violencia en Santa Cruz

- El Gobierno convocó, a través del vocero presidencial Jorge Richter, al diálogo al presidente del Comité Cívico cruceño, Rómulo Calvo, el mismo no prosperó por los enfrentamientos.
El conflicto por el censo registró ayer una dura jornada de violencia debido al enfrentamiento, que duró más de 6 horas, entre grupos afines al Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) con los pobladores del municipio cruceño de La Guardia y estos fueron reprimidos por centenares de policías, dejando un saldo de varios heridos y el arresto de 15 ciudadanos que apoyan el paro.
Todo comenzó desde horas de la tarde cuando ambos bandos protagonizaron incidentes con petardos y piedras. Varias calles, especialmente la doble vía hacia el municipio de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, fueron los lugares, donde se registraron las grescas.
El clima de tensión subió en medio de la gasificación, debido al uso desmedido de agentes químicos para reprimir a los habitantes de La Guardia operado por más de tres centenares de policías, situación que enardeció a los habitantes y exigieron la liberación de los arrestados.
En horas de la noche hubo la convocatoria del Gobierno a un diálogo a los representantes del Comité Interinstitucional de Santa Cruz en busca de una solución al conflicto que llegó ayer al día 11, el mismo que no prosperó debido al clima de violencia.
Al caer la noche, para las 20:15 horas, el Gobierno fijó una reunión con el Comité Interinstitucional Impulsor de Santa Cruz debido al conflicto para tratar la definición de la fecha del Censo Nacional de Población y Vivienda.
El vocero presidencial Jorge Richter informó que se tomó contacto con representantes de la institucionalidad cruceña para establecer el encuentro que será en la Dirección de Apoyo a la Prevención del Consumo de Drogas, Control del Tráfico Ilícito de Sustancias Controladas y Coca Excedentaria (Diprevcon), ubicado en la capital cruceña.
Por otro lado, el presidente del Comité Cívico pro Santa Cruz, Rómulo Calvo, afirmó que no acudirían al diálogo con el Gobierno por el conflicto del Censo Nacional de Población y Vivienda, mientras persista la represión policial en el municipio cruceño de La Guardia.
“Antes de iniciarse cualquier mesa de diálogo tiene que acabarse la represión policial y la represión de la gente que ha venido de otro departamento a querer amedrentar y avasallar al pueblo cruceño”, puntualizó el dirigente cívico.
