IACHR is in Bolivia to monitor compliance with GIEI recommendations
A representation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) arrived in Bolivia to carry out an agenda of meetings with authorities, in order to follow up on the implementation of recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI), on violence unleashed between September and November 2019.
“A delegation from the @IACHR led by the commissioner @JoelHernandezG and the executive secretary @TaniaReneaum arrived in La Paz to install the Follow-up Table for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the #GIEIBolivia,” wrote the executive secretary of the GIEI Bolivia, Jaime Vidal Melero.
On July 23, 2021, the GIEI issued its final report on the investigation of the violence unleashed between September and November 2019, when in the midst of upheaval, Evo Morales resigned from the Presidency and assumed the transitional government of Jeanine Añez, but in the change, incidents of violence were recorded in Senkata and Sacaba, in addition to other episodes with deaths and clashes.
The report was ratified on March 2 before the Organization of American States and on that occasion the GIEI experts affirmed that in Bolivia, during 2019, summary executions, homicides, massacres and torture occurred.
“Tomorrow, the @IACHR will meet with State authorities and associations of victims and civil society to address the objectives of the #MESEG and publicize its work schedule,” Vidal Melero added in another tweet, referring to the work agenda for this Tuesday.
The GIEI report considered a series of recommendations to the State to correct and apply the restitution of rights violated in 2019. In many cases it refers to access to justice, speed and observations in the procedure.

Una representación de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) llegó a Bolivia para llevar a cabo una agenda de reuniones con autoridades, con el fin de dar seguimiento a la implementación de recomendaciones del Grupo Interdisciplinario de Expertos Independientes (GIEI), sobre la violencia desatada entre septiembre y noviembre de 2019.
“Llegamos a La Paz una delegación de la @CIDH liderada por el comisionado @JoelHernandezG y la secretaria ejecutiva @TaniaReneaum para instalar la Mesa de Seguimiento a la Implementación de las Recomendaciones del #GIEIBolivia”, escribió en su cuenta de Twitter el secretario ejecutivo del GIEI Bolivia, Jaime Vidal Melero.
El 23 de julio de 2021, el GIEI emitió su informe final sobre la investigación de la violencia desatada entre septiembre y noviembre de 2019, cuando en medio de convulsión, renunció Evo Morales a la Presidencia y asumió el gobierno transitorio de Jeanine Añez, pero en el cambio se registraron incidentes de violencia en Senkata y Sacaba, además de otros episodios con fallecidos y enfrentamientos.
El informe fue ratificado el 2 de marzo ante la Organización de Estados Americanos y en esa oportunidad los expertos del GIEI afirmaron que en Bolivia, durante 2019, ocurrieron ejecuciones sumarias, homicidios, masacres y torturas.
“Durante el día de mañana la @CIDH se reunirá con autoridades del Estado y asociaciones de víctimas y sociedad civil para abordar los objetivos de la #MESEG y dar a conocer su cronograma de trabajo”, agregó en otro tuit Vidal Melero, en referencia a la agenda de trabajo para este martes.
El informe de la GIEI consideró una serie de recomendaciones al Estado para subsanar y aplicar la restitución de derechos violados en 2019. En muchos casos refiere al acceso a la justicia, celeridad y observaciones en el procedimiento.
