Baroque Music Festival will revive with 130 concerts
26 casts from Bolivia and 19 from different parts of the planet will participate. The venues for the recitals will be Santa Cruz and Chiquitos.
After four years of waiting, the XIII International Festival of American Renaissance and Baroque Music “Misiones de Chiquitos” will revive next month with 130 concerts. Artists from 16 countries will participate.
“Despite the time that passed between versions, we have been able to verify the importance that this festival has in the world. As soon as we launched the call, we received applications from orchestras from more than 20 countries”, informed the priest and researcher Piotr Nawrot, founder and director of the meeting.
According to the organizers, 26 Bolivian groups and 19 from 15 other nations will perform. In that sense, Nawrot explained that for economic reasons the number of participants had to be limited.
“It is important to emphasize that the Bolivian festival is the first of early music to be reactivated. Artists from all over the world seek to reach the country, despite the difficulties that this entails. For example, Poland is sending a girls’ choir with more than a dozen members, that’s a significant investment,” she added.
The event, one of the most important held in Bolivia, will take place between April 22 and May 1. As in its previous versions, the venues will be the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and the municipalities of Chiquitos. Nawrot announced that it is possible that the city of Tarija will be included as a venue.
There will be 130 concerts. Of these, only those that take place in the Santa Cruz capital will have entrance fees. These will be sold online and will have the same cost as in previous versions: 70 bolivianos. The rest of the presentations will be free admission.
This edition is also special because it comes with two important novelties. The first is the Barroqueando cycle with children and young people, which will take place at the beginning. “It is a segment dedicated to minors. The beauty of the pieces created in colonial America will be presented to the new audiences of the country”.
The second is Monumental Baroque. It is a massive concert, with 160 musicians. It will be held on May 1 in Santa Cruz, at the closing of the festival. It is the first time that a concert of such dimensions has been prepared in the history of the event.
Likewise, one of the main objectives will be fulfilled: to recover the compositions of the missionary archives.
“Since its creation, it seeks to recover pieces created in Bolivian territory. They come both from the National Archives and Libraries of Bolivia and from the archives of the Chiquitos and Moxos missions. The work carried out in these populations is unique and highly appreciated, both by locals and strangers,” he indicated.

Festival de Música Barroca revivirá con 130 conciertos
Participarán 26 elencos de Bolivia y 19 de diferentes partes del planeta. Las sedes de los recitales serán Santa Cruz y Chiquitos.
Después de cuatro años de espera, el XIII Festival Internacional de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana “Misiones de Chiquitos” revivirá el siguiente mes con 130 conciertos. Participarán artistas de 16 países.
“Pese al tiempo que pasó entre versiones, hemos podido comprobar la importancia que este festival tiene en el mundo. Apenas lanzamos la convocatoria recibimos postulaciones de orquestas de más de 20 países”, informó el sacerdote e investigador Piotr Nawrot, fundador y director del encuentro.
Según adelantaron los organizadores, actuarán 26 agrupaciones bolivianas y 19 de otras 15 naciones. En ese sentido, Nawrot explicó que por motivos económicos se debió limitar el número de participantes.
“Es importante recalcar que el festival boliviano es el primero de música antigua que se reactiva. Los artistas de todo el mundo buscan llegar al país, pese a las dificultades que eso conlleva. Por ejemplo, Polonia está enviando un coro de niñas con más de una docena de integrantes, ésa es un inversión importante”, agregó.
El evento, uno de los más importantes que se realizan en Bolivia, se efectuará entre el 22 de abril y el 1 de mayo. Como en sus anteriores versiones, las sedes serán la ciudad de Santa Cruz de la Sierra y los municipios de Chiquitos. Nawrot adelantó que es posible que se incluya la ciudad de Tarija como sede.
Serán 130 conciertos. De éstos, sólo los que se realicen en la capital cruceña contarán con costo de entradas. Éstas se venderán por internet y tendrán el mismo costo que en anteriores versiones: 70 bolivianos. El resto de las presentaciones será de ingreso gratuito.
Esta edición es también especial porque llega con dos novedades importantes. La primera es la realización del ciclo Barroqueando con niños y jóvenes, que sucederá al principio. “Es un segmento dedicado a los menores de edad. Se presentará la belleza de las piezas creadas en la América colonial a los nuevos públicos del país”.
La segunda es Barroco Monumental. Se trata de un concierto masivo, con 160 músicos. Se realizará el 1 de mayo en Santa Cruz, en la clausura del festival. Es la primera vez que se prepara un concierto de tales dimensiones en la historia del evento.
Asimismo, se cumplirá con uno de los principales objetivos: recuperar las composiciones de los archivos misionales.
“Desde su creación se busca recuperar piezas creadas en territorio boliviano. Vienen tanto del Archivo y Bibliotecas Nacionales de Bolivia como de los archivos de las misiones de Chiquitos y Moxos. El trabajo realizado en estas poblaciones es único y muy apreciado, tanto por propios como extraños”, indicó.
