Guarantees for Abecor
One of the prides of Página Siete is to count, on a daily basis, with Abecor‘s art because it challenges power and society as a whole with issues that range from abuse of power to machismo, through corruption, attacks on the freedom of expression or inconsistencies incurred by national leaders.
In recent days, Abecor has been attacked for having presented a cartoon that alludes to Attorney Wilfredo Chávez who, far from making a self-critical analysis of the situation, which would be desirable, has responded with a vicious attack on Página Siete and, a few hours later From anonymous accounts, Abecor has started receiving death threats. It should be noted that some time ago, also after a cartoon referring to the same authority, there were other threats to his integrity.
From Página Siete, we ask both Prosecutor Chávez and the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, to offer guarantees for Abecor’s work and we leave the responsibility for the physical integrity of our cartoonist in their hands.
Garantías para Abecor
Uno de los orgullos de Página Siete es contar, a diario, con el arte de Abecor porque interpela al poder y a la sociedad en su conjunto con temas que van desde el abuso de poder hasta el machismo, pasando por la corrupción, los ataques a la libertad de expresión o las incoherencias en las que incurren los líderes nacionales.
Los últimos días, Abecor ha sido atacado por haber presentado una caricatura que alude al procurador Wilfredo Chávez que, lejos de hacer una análisis autocrítico de la situación, que sería lo deseable, ha respondido con un ataque soez a Página Siete y, unas horas después, desde cuentas anónimas, Abecor ha empezado a recibir amenazas de muerte. Hay que hacer notar que hace algún tiempo, también después de una viñeta alusiva a la misma autoridad, se produjeron otras amenazas a su integridad.
Desde Página Siete pedimos, tanto al procurador Chávez como el ministro de Gobierno, Eduardo del Castillo, que ofrezcan garantías para el trabajo de Abecor y dejamos en sus manos la responsabilidad por la integridad física de nuestro caricaturista.
