Despite the good indicators shown by the Government and international organizations about a growth that the national economy will register, between 3% and 5%, the truth is that economists point out that it will take many years to grow again, after the recession that it is around -8% last year, although the official data is not yet known.
In a presentation held at the National Chamber of Industries, on the state of the sector, the institution’s advisor, Hugo Siles, explained that although a growth of 4.4% is projected for this management year, last year the average fall would be at 8%, which means that replenishing the decline will take time.
Also the economist Gonzalo Chávez in his opinion article entitled What will be the “genuine” growth of GDP in 2021? Published in a national media, he points out that it will take several years to recover the growth levels registered in the pre-pandemic.
The projected growth figures by business sectors range from 3% to 4%, but as a statistical rebound, due to the recession indicated last year, which means that it is not a real growth, but a slight recovery.
In the latest report from the World Bank, estimates that the drop in Bolivia’s Gross Domestic Product would be less than 8%.
The economy had already been relaxing since 2015, due to the fall in the prices of raw materials in the international market, which reduced the country’s income due to the lower price of gas in the markets of Brazil and Argentina, to this is also added the reduction in demand, due to lack of production.
Although the values of crude oil in the international market improved, the lower demand for natural gas will affect state revenues.
The lack of resources will be a constant in this administration, therefore the Government announces the issuance of bonds for 3,000 million dollars, but economists point out that the current situation is not appropriate, and the situation is complicated by the negative rating that has the country.

A pesar de los buenos indicadores que muestra el Gobierno y los organismos internacionales sobre un crecimiento que registrará la economía nacional, entre 3% a 5%, lo cierto es que economistas señalan que tardará muchos años en volver a crecer, luego de la recesión que bordea el -8% la pasada gestión, aunque no se conocen todavía los datos oficiales.
En una exposición realizada en la Cámara Nacional de Industrias, sobre el estado del sector, el asesor de la institución, Hugo Siles, explicó qué si bien se proyecta un crecimiento de 4,4% para esta gestión, el año pasado la caída en promedio estaría en 8%, lo que significa que reponer el descenso tomará su tiempo.
También el economista Gonzalo Chávez en su artículo de opinión titulado ¿Cuál será el crecimiento “genuino” del PIB en 2021? Publicado en un medio nacional, señala que tomará varios años recuperar los niveles de crecimiento registrado en la prepandemia.
Las cifras proyectadas de crecimiento por sectores empresariales oscilan entre 3% a 4%, pero como rebote estadístico, debido a la recesión indicada la pasada gestión, lo que significa que no es un crecimiento real, sino una recuperación leve.
En su último informe del Banco Mundial, estima que la caída del Producto Interno Bruto de Bolivia estaría en menos al 8%.
La economía ya venía relajándose desde el 2015, debido a la caída de los precios de las materias primas en el mercado internacional, que redujo los ingresos del país por el menor precio del gas a mercados de Brasil y Argentina, a esto también se suma la reducción de la demanda, debido a la falta de producción.
Aunque los valores del crudo en el mercado internacional mejoraron, la menor demanda de gas natural incidirá en los ingresos del Estado.
La falta de recursos será una constante en la presente gestión, por ello el Gobierno anuncia la emisión de bonos por 3.000 millones de dólares, pero los economistas señalan que la coyuntura actual no es la apropiada, y la situación se complica con la calificación negativa que tiene el país.
