Despite requests to transfer to a health center, she was sent to the Miraflores prison, without further explanation
“They took me out saying that I was going to Clinica del Sur” were the only words that Jeanine Áñez managed to share when she was admitted to the Miraflores prison.
At one o’clock in the morning on Saturday, March 20, the former president was taken out of the Obrajes Prison, without the authorities giving further explanations, and put on a wagon. The people who were keeping vigil expressed their support for her, “we are with you,” they told her, and wished her strength.
The situation occurred hours after her defense managed to have her admitted at the Clinica del Sur, due to hypertension that has afflicted her for several days.
The Tenth Criminal Investigation Judge, Armando Zeballos Guarachi, today revoked the departure of the former president, Jeanine Áñez, who hours before had won a release action to be transferred to the Clinica del Sur. Likewise, the governor of the Women’s Orientation Center (COF), Colonel Luciana Karina Figueroa Sánchez, also suffered a decompensation and was unable to comply with the first court order.
“The decree dated March 19, 2021 is revoked, providing instead the following: in response to the report of the director of the COF de Obrajes of the date and the medical reports attached to it, it is provided that IDIF (Institute of Forensic Investigation) specialized and/or medical personnel of a public hospital is constituted to the COF de Obrajes to verify the state of health of the accused,” indicates the conclusive part of that judicial decision.
Áñez’s daughter, a few hours before, and at the door of the Obrajes Prison, denounced the abuses and said that they are putting her mother’s life at risk.

“Me sacaron diciendo que iba a la Clínica del Sur”, fueron las únicas palabras que logró compartir Jeanine Áñez, al momento de ser ingresada a la cárcel de Miraflores.
A la una de la madrugada de este sábado 20 de marzo, la ex presidenta fue sacada del Penal de Obrajes, sin que las autoridades dieran mayores explicaciones, y subida a una vagoneta. Las personas que hacían vigilia le expresaron su apoyo, “estamos contigo”, le decían, y le deseaban fuerza.
La situación se produjo horas después de que su defensa gestionara su internación en la Clínica del Sur, debido a una hipertensión que la aqueja desde hace varios días.
El juez Décimo de Instrucción en lo Penal, Armando Zeballos Guarachi, revocó hoy la salida de la ex presidenta, Jeanine Áñez, quien horas antes había ganado una acción de libertad para ser traslada a la clínica del Sur. Asimismo, la gobernadora del Centro de Orientación Femenina (COF), coronel Luciana Karina Figueroa Sánchez, también sufrió una descompensación y no pudo cumplir la primera orden judicial.
“Se revoca el decreto de fecha 19 de marzo de 2021 disponiéndose en su lugar lo siguiente: en atención al informe de la directora del COF de Obrajes de la fecha y los informes médicos adjuntados al mismo, se dispone que personal del IDIF (Instituto de Investigación Forense) especializado y/o personal médico de un hospital público se constituya al COF de Obrajes para verificar el estado de salud de la imputada”, señala la parte conclusiva de esa decisión judicial.
La hija de Áñez, unas horas antes, y en la puerta del Penal de Obrajes, denunció los abusos y dijo que están poniendo en riesgo la vida de su madre.
