The game is over – El juego ha terminado

The game is over. That could be a good title to express the defeat of the MAS in the sub-national elections. The game that the masista regime played happily and without any modesty for almost three decades ended. The threats, intimidation, the “carrying” of electoral mercenaries, the infinity of lies and half-truths, foul play, slander, insult, offense, hypocrisy and arrogance, of which 14 years showed, left to function and the only thing that has actually left them is the certainty that their sacrosanct dreams of almost eternal grandeur and power were nothing more than the product of a systematic trade in illusions.

It was also clear that “revolutionary morality,” considered the quintessence of the process of change and an insurmountable guarantee of its unbreakable affinity with the people, was only an empty speech that failed to overcome even the first test of resistance against active citizenship, that Citizenship that only becomes visible when it has to choose who will manage the destiny of its city, and not the metaphysical heights of the State, where Evo and his acolytes wove dreams that six months of epidemic shattered.

Eight of the ten cities where the electoral flow is decisive are in the hands of mayors of the opposition and in at least 4 departments there will have to be a second round to decide whether the MAS remains in power or goes to the background. How do you explain the debacle?

The first hypothesis maintains that everything is due to the effect of the evista finger. It is a half-truth to the extent that the “fingering” involves a dose of analysis and reflection, which in the present case was wrong from beginning to end. What actually happened is that the egomania of the caudillo prevailed. The masista leadership confused the reality of the country with that of Evo Morales and at the end of the day ended up understanding that one already has very little to do with the other.

The second hypothesis that is handled maintains that Evo’s catalytic power deteriorated as a result of his estrangement and tensions with the current government, particularly with the Vice President. Nobody knows if this is the case, what we all perceive is that the electoral failure of the MAS has nothing to do with its internal quarrels, what actually expresses its defeat is that the end of the Evista caudillismo allowed citizens to recognize its historical capacity. Far from fear, decided to show the old MAS and its “historical” leaders that people can decide on their own, without messianic saviors or Creole Machiavellians. Therein lies the failure of the masistas. It is about a resurgence of citizenship after fourteen years of the media lethargy of a blind and indolent regime in the face of the reality of a people tired of its falsehood.

El Juego ha terminado. Ese podría ser un buen título para expresar la derrota del MAS en las elecciones subnacionales. El juego que alegremente y sin ningún recato ejerció el régimen masista por casi tres lustros terminó. Las amenazas, las intimidaciones, el “acarreo” de mercenarios electorales, la infinidad de mentiras y medias verdades, el juego sucio, la calumnia, el insulto, la ofensa, la  hipocresía y la arrogancia, de la que hacían gala 14 años, dejaron de funcionar y lo único que en realidad les  ha dejado es la certeza de que sus sacrosantos sueños de grandeza y poder casi eternos no fueron más que el producto de un sistemático comercio de ilusiones.

También quedó claro que la “moral revolucionaria”, considerada la quintaescencia del proceso de cambio y garantía insuperable de su afinidad inquebrantable con el pueblo, sólo fue un discurso vació que no logró vencer ni la primera prueba de resistencia frente a la ciudadanía activa, esa ciudadanía que sólo se hace visible cuando tiene que elegir a quien maneje los destinos de su ciudad, y no las metafísicas alturas del Estado, donde Evo y sus acólitos tejían ensoñaciones que seis meses de epidemia hicieron añicos.

Ocho de las diez ciudades donde el caudal electoral es decisorio están en manos de alcaldes de  la oposición y al menos en 4 departamentos tendrá que haber una segunda vuelta para decidir si en MAS se queda con el poder o pasa a segundo plano. ¿Cómo se explica la debacle?

La primera hipótesis sostiene que todo se debe al efecto del dedazo evista. Es una media verdad en la medida en que los “dedazos” suponen una dosis de análisis y reflexión, que en el caso que nos ocupa estuvo errado de principio a fin. Lo que en realidad pasó es que se impuso la egomanía del caudillo. La cúpula masista confundió la realidad del país con la de Evo Morales y al final de la jornada terminó comprendiendo que la una ya tiene muy poco que ver con la otra.

La segunda hipótesis que se maneja sostiene que el poder catalizador de Evo se deterioró por efecto de su alejamiento y tensiones con el gobierno actual, particularmente con el Vicepresidente. Nadie sabe si esto es así, lo que todos percibimos es que el fracaso electoral del MAS nada tiene que ver con sus rencillas internas, lo que en realidad expresa su derrota es que el fin del caudillismo evista permitió a la ciudadanía reconocer su capacidad histórica. Lejos del miedo, decidió mostrarle al viejo MAS y sus líderes “históricos” que puede decidir por cuenta propia, sin salvadores mesiánicos ni maquiavelos criollos. Ahí reside el fracaso masista.  Se trata de un resurgir de la ciudadanía después de catorce años del letargo mediático de un régimen ciego e indolente frente a la realidad de un pueblo cansado de su falsedad.
