Economic analysis
President Luis Arce has decided to cross all barriers of ethics and now not only is he campaigning for the candidates of his party, but he has added a new element: blackmail.
He carries around the warning that if voters prefer to vote for candidates from parties other than those of the MAS, they should know that they will not receive help from the central government.
He does not offer vaccines because his government is so inefficient that he has so far vaccinated less than 3,000 people and in Chile, in a single day, 140,000 people were vaccinated.
He has so little discretion about the economy that he has decided to replace the entry visa for tourists from the United States and Israel, when all the countries of the world are trying to attract tourists. A surely ideological reasoning that comes to harm the economy of the dying hotel and service sector.
The number of tourists traveling from one country to another fell by 1 billion during 2020 and this represents a loss of US$ 1.3 billion for the tourism industry worldwide.
The city of Rurrenabaque lived on Israeli tourism since, in 1981, the case of the young man from that country became famous who got lost in the jungle but survived thanks to the help of native peoples of the area.

Requiring visas from tourists from the United States probably has to do with the political commitments that the MAS has with the governments of the dictators of Russia and China, but it is also a useless measure, since the government of Washington has just recommended to its citizens do not come to Bolivia because here the Chinese virus is out of control.

El presidente Luis Arce ha decidido cruzar todas las barreras de la ética y ahora no solo que está haciendo campaña por los candidatos de su partido, sino que ha añadido un elemento nuevo: el chantaje.
Lleva a todas partes la advertencia de que si los electores prefirieran votar por candidatos de otros partidos que no sean los del MAS, deben saber que no recibirán ayuda del gobierno central.
No ofrece vacunas porque su gobierno es tan ineficiente que ha vacunado hasta ahora a menos de 3.000 personas y en Chile, en un solo día, fueron vacunadas 140.000 personas.
Tan poco criterio tiene sobre la economía que ha decidido reponer la visa de ingreso para los turistas de Estados Unidos e Israel, cuando todos los países del mundo están tratando de atraer turistas. Un razonamiento seguramente ideológico que viene a perjudicar a la economía del moribundo sector hotelero y de servicios.
El número de turistas que viajan de un país a otro cayó en 1.000 millones durante 2020 y esto representa una pérdida de US$ 1.300.000 millones para la industria del turismo en todo el mundo.
La ciudad de Rurrenabaque vivía del turismo israelí desde que, en 1981, se hizo famoso el caso del joven de ese país que se perdió en la selva pero sobrevivió gracias a la ayuda de pueblos originarios de la zona.
El ejército israelí incluyó las visitas a Bolivia como práctica para obtener mejores calificaciones, lo que generó una corriente fluida de turistas de ese país hacia el Beni, pero desde que el cocalero Morales puso las restricciones esa corriente se ha extinguido.
El caso se presenta cuando los trabajadores de los restaurantes del país están pidiendo que se les permita trabajar los domingos, con servicios de entrega a domicilio, para poder sobrevivir. Y los hoteles esperan que les llegue ayuda del gobierno, en vista de que el turismo se ha frenado, como en todo el mundo.
El criterio con el que se aplican estas medidas es, presumiblemente, ideológico. Exigir visas a los turistas de Estados Unidos probablemente tenga que ver con los compromisos políticos que tiene el MAS con los gobiernos de los dictadores de Rusia y China, pero además se trata de una medida inútil, pues el gobierno de Washington acaba de recomendar a sus ciudadanos no llegar a Bolivia porque aquí el virus chino está descontrolado.
Solían llegar 250.000 turistas norteamericanos por año y con la historia de las visas se redujo ese flujo a 25.000. Ahora, por la pandemia, a nadie se le ocurre viajar a ninguna parte, y menos a los lugares donde el virus está descontrolado.
¿Alguien podría pensar en la economía del país? ¿O todo consiste en obedecer los designios de Moscú y Pekín?
