The WB foresees growth of 3.9% for Bolivia
The World Bank (WB) foresees that in 2021 Bolivia will reach a growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 3.9%, a figure lower than that estimated by the Government in the General State Budget (PGE), of 4.8% . According to “World Economic Outlook: Latin America and the Caribbean,” published yesterday by the multilateral organization, the country’s growth will exceed the regional average of 3.7%.
“Regional economic activity is expected to grow 3.7% in 2021, as initiatives to mitigate the pandemic become more flexible, vaccines are distributed, the prices of the main commodities stabilize and external conditions improve,” says the report.
However, the World Bank warns that this growth will depend on the development of the pandemic, the vaccine distribution plans and the economic reactivation of each country, in which case, regional growth could be less than projected.
“However, the rebound will be very weak and comes after a decade of slow growth. In a negative scenario, in which the distribution of vaccines is delayed. With secondary economic effects, growth could be even lower, 1.9%,” the entity reported.
For 2022, the international financial organization projects an expansion of Bolivian GDP of 3.5%, also in line with the regional average for Latin America and the Caribbean predicted on the effects of the pandemic.

El Banco Mundial (BM) prevé que en 2021 Bolivia alcanzará un crecimiento del Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) de 3,9%, cifra menor a la estimada por el Gobierno en el Presupuesto General del Estado (PGE), de 4,8%. De acuerdo con “Perspectivas económicas mundiales: América Latina y el Caribe”, publicado ayer por el organismo multilateral, el crecimiento del país superará a la media regional de 3,7%.
“Se espera que la actividad económica regional crezca un 3,7% en 2021, a medida que se flexibilicen las iniciativas para mitigar la pandemia, se distribuyan vacunas, se estabilicen los precios de los principales productos básicos y mejoren las condiciones externas”, dice el reporte.
Sin embargo, el BM advierte que este crecimiento dependerá del desarrollo de la pandemia, los planes de distribución de las vacunas y la reactivación económica de cada país, en cuyo caso, el crecimiento regional podría ser menor al proyectado.
“No obstante, el repunte será muy débil y se produce después de una década de crecimiento lento. En un escenario negativo, en el que se retrase la distribución de las vacunas. Con efectos económicos secundarios, el crecimiento podría ser aún menor, del 1,9 %”, informó la entidad.
Para 2022, el organismo financiero internacional proyecta una expansión del PIB boliviano de 3,5%, también en la línea del promedio regional para América Latina y el Caribe pronosticado sobre los efectos de la pandemia.
