A praise from The Economist
It must be the first time that The Economist magazine has put Bolivia on a very short list of countries it wants to praise, among the best of 2020.
In its year-end edition, it first mentions New Zealand, for its exemplary handling of the pandemic: only one hundred infections and 25 deaths and at this moment its stadiums are full; everything is normal.
In second place is Taiwan, also for its excellent handling of the pandemic, with seven deaths, without quarantines or closure of activities, and an enviable performance of its economy despite the permanent threat of the communist regime in Beijing.
The United States is the third mentioned. Says it mishandled the pandemic but praises the fact that by rejecting the re-election of Donald Trump, voters have stopped the other dangerous pandemic, that of populism.
And it is because of this that the prestigious magazine mentions Bolivia for having repudiated a “socialist” dictator who committed electoral fraud and having led to the election of a “technocrat.”
Other international publications repeated the slogan of calling the 2019 protests a “coup” that led to the resignation and hasty escape of cocalero Morales.
In no report on the Bolivian situation after the escape of the “socialist” did the prestigious magazine make that mistake, which was almost unanimous in the foreign media.
If this was a current that responded to a slogan, financed or not by legal resources or not, it is difficult to verify.
But it is an honor for Bolivia and the exemplary protest of October-November 2019 that this world journalism authority corrects the mistake made by so many publications.
These publications repeated the absurdity of calling the transitional government a “coup” that had been approved by parliament where the MAS had two-thirds of the votes.
Mrs. Eva Copa now repeated that the constitutional succession that occurred in November 2019 was “forced” by the “void” left by the resignation of the coca grower and his vice-president.
With this mention, The Economist does justice to Bolivians and restores faith in journalism by demonstrating that not all media obey the slogans of unspeakable economic powers.
But above all, the tribute from the best magazine in the world is an encouragement for Bolivians to conclude the purpose that moved them and that resulted in an unfinished revolution due to the obtuse vision of the politicians who were in charge of managing the popular victory.
It is a task that must be completed sooner or later.

Un elogio de The Economist
Debe ser la primera vez que la revista The Economist pone a Bolivia en una muy corta lista de países que quiere elogiar, entre los mejores de 2020.
En su edición de fin de año, menciona en primer lugar a Nueva Zelandia, por su ejemplar manejo de la pandemia: solo cien contagios y 25 muertos y en este momento sus estadios repletos; todo normal.
En segundo lugar figura Taiwán, también por su excelente manejo de la pandemia, con siete muertos, sin cuarentenas ni cierre de actividades, y un desempeño envidiable de su economía a pesar de la permanente amenaza del régimen comunista de Pekín.
Estados Unidos es el tercer mencionado. Dice que manejó mal la pandemia pero elogia el hecho de que, al rechazar la reelección de Donald Trump, los electores hayan frenado la otra pandemia peligrosa, la del populismo.
Y es a propósito de eso que la revista tan prestigiosa menciona a Bolivia por haber repudiado a un dictador “socialista” que cometió fraude electoral y haber desembocado en la elección de un “tecnócrata”.
Otras publicaciones internacionales repitieron la consigna de llamar “golpe de Estado” a las protestas de 2019 que provocaron la renuncia y la precipitada fuga del cocalero Morales.
En ningún informe sobre la situación boliviana posterior a la fuga del “socialista” la revista tan prestigiosa cometió aquel error, que fue casi unánime en los medios del exterior.
Si esa fue una corriente que respondió a una consigna, financiada o no por recursos lícitos o no, es algo difícil de verificar.
Pero es un honor para Bolivia y la ejemplar protesta de octubre-noviembre de 2019 que esta autoridad mundial del periodismo corrija el error cometido por tantas publicaciones.
Esas publicaciones repitieron el absurdo de llamar “golpista” al gobierno de transición que había sido aprobado por el parlamento donde el MAS tenía dos tercios de los votos.
La señora Eva Copa repitió ahora que la sucesión constitucional que se dio en noviembre de 2019 fue “forzada” por el “vacío” dejado por la renuncia del cocalero y su vice.
Con esta mención, The Economist le hace justicia a los bolivianos y devuelve la fe en el periodismo al demostrar que no todos los medios obedecen las consignas de poderes económicos innombrables.
Pero sobre todo el homenaje de la mejor revista del mundo es un aliento para que los bolivianos concluyan el propósito que les movió y que resultó en una revolución inconclusa por la visión obtusa de los políticos que tuvieron a su cargo administrar el triunfo popular.
Es una tarea que debe completarse tarde o temprano.
