It turns out that there is life for the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) apart from Evo Morales. Long life.

This is not good news for the former president asylee in Argentina who, contrary to what the figures say, interprets that the vote received by Luis Arce is a message asking for his return to Bolivia. If his hypothesis is true, then that vote would have been obtained by him at the polls and not by Arce.

In last year’s elections, Morales obtained 47%, compared to 36% for the Citizen Community, which would have to be deducted some point for the electoral fraud certified by the OAS and endorsed by the European Union.

On the other hand, in this election, at 88% of the counted tables, Luis Arce already has 54.5 percent of the votes, moving away from Evo Morales with more than seven points.

Many readings have been made of the overwhelming victory of the MAS in these elections. One of them is the one that indicates that the masistas who were disenchanted by the prorogism, authoritarianism and corruption of the government of Evo Morales, returned to trust the MAS for the renewal of leadership and for the promise to recognize the errors and redirect the so-called process of change.

Apparently, Arce is making a correct reading of this message and that is why he has indicated that Evo Morales will not have any role in his government and has practically sent his former colleague ministers into retirement. It is too early to say if Arce will print his own style on the government or if he will continue to be influenced by Morales, but he is giving signals in the right direction. In any case, we must not forget that Morales appointed Arce as a candidate and that he endorsed the list of legislators, among whom there are many faithful to the former president.

Until last year, the MAS could not be conceived without its caudillo Evo, but now it is clear that the party is much stronger than its leader and that, through a pandemic and gross errors by the Añez government, it regained the power of the most unexpected way.

So the messages for Evo and Arce are clear. If he wants to do good for his own party, Morales would have to keep a low profile and walk away from power. For this reason, it was counterproductive that the first day after the victory of the MAS he was giving guidelines of what the new government would be like.

For Arce, the message from his electors is that he leads a government without resentment, without hatred, without authoritarianism, without trampling on the Constitution and, on the contrary, to promote reconciliation with all Bolivians.

It remains to be seen whether each one will assume the role delegated by the polls.

No son buenas noticias para el expresidente asilado en Argentina que, a contracorriente de lo que dicen las cifras, interpreta que el voto recibido por Luis Arce es un mensaje pidiendo su regreso a Bolivia. De ser cierta su hipótesis, entonces esa votación la hubiera obtenido él en las urnas y no Arce.

En los comicios del año pasado, Morales obtuvo 47%, frente al 36% de Comunidad Ciudadana, a lo que habría que restarle algún punto por el fraude electoral certificado por la OEA y avalado por la Unión Europea.

En cambio, en esta elección, al 88% de las mesas escrutadas, Luis Arce ya cuenta con 54,5 por ciento de los votos, alejándose de Evo Morales con más de siete puntos.

Muchas lecturas se han hecho del triunfo arrollador del MAS en estas elecciones. Una de ellas es la que indica que los masistas que estaban desencantados por el prorroguismo, el autoritarismo y la corrupción del gobierno de Evo Morales, volvieron a confiar en el MAS por la renovación de los liderazgos y por la promesa de reconocer los errores y reencauzar el denominado proceso de cambio.

Al parecer, Arce está haciendo una lectura correcta de este mensaje y por eso ha señalado que Evo Morales no tendrá ninguna función en su gobierno y prácticamente ha mandado a la jubilación a sus excolegas ministros. Es muy pronto para afirmar si Arce le imprimirá su propio estilo al gobierno o si seguirá recibiendo la influencia de Morales, pero está dando señales en el sentido correcto. De todas formas, no hay que olvidar que Morales designó a Arce como candidato y que avaló la lista de legisladores, entre los que hay muchos fieles al exmandatario.

Hasta el año pasado, no se podía concebir al MAS sin su caudillo Evo, pero ahora quedó claro que el partido es mucho más fuerte que su líder y que, pandemia de por medio y gruesos errores del gobierno de Añez, recuperó el poder de la manera más inesperada.

Están claros entonces los mensajes para Evo y para Arce. Si quiere hacer el bien a su propio partido, Morales tendría que mantener un bajo perfil y alejarse del poder. Por eso, fue contraproducente que el primer día tras la victoria del MAS estuviera dando lineamientos de cómo sería el nuevo gobierno. 

Para Arce, el mensaje de sus electores es que encabece un gobierno sin resentimientos, sin odios, sin autoritarismo, sin pisoteo de la Constitución y que, por el contrario, promueva la reconciliación con todos los bolivianos. 

Falta saber si cada uno asumirá el papel delegado por las urnas.
