Harassment and death threats against the illustrator of Página Siete
The threats and insults reach Abel Bellido through his Facebook account.

“The day is coming when you will see your creator … IMPERIALIST dog … I will cool you personally … Your remains will not reach the PANTHEON … NEOLIBERAL DOG … YOU ARE DEAD”. This is the last one that the illustrator and cartoonist of Página Siete, Abel Bellido, received yesterday on his Facebook account. Bellido also suffers an intense campaign of intimidation and persecution on social networks.
In this situation, the director of Página Siete, Isabel Mercado, sent a letter to the Minister of Government, Arturo Murillo.
“Abel has been not only insulted but threatened with death in private and public messages by people who do not identify themselves and who try to silence him,” the letter details, requesting guarantees for the work of our colleague, taking into account that Protection of the press’s work is a constitutional right in Bolivia.
The illustrator states that the comments when he publishes his work on the wall of his Facebook account can express very hostile criticism and risqué, but he limited himself to canceling the comment or blocking the user who disrespected him; however, death threats recently began.
“This has happened more than once and of course generates concern and uncertainty, since they are people who create false accounts to threaten (…). They put you ‘you are about to meet your creator … personally I am going to cool you down’ and that type of intimidation that really alarms and you cannot remain indifferent,” Bellido indicates.
“Your death will be more beautiful (sic) than that of the Terán brothers”, warns the same criminal, who created a Facebook account with the name of Francisco Villa, where he usually posts content against the Government of Jeanine Añez and particularly against the minister Murillo.
Ronald Fbr Mamani Lima also harasses Bellido on his Facebook account, with a series of insults and threats, as well as others who also threaten him with death.
“One can receive insults and others … But threat after threat worries,” says Bellido.

Acoso y amenazas de muerte al ilustrador de Página Siete
Las amenazas e insultos le llegan a Abel Bellido por su cuenta de Facebook.
“Ya se acerca el día en que verás a tu creador… Perro IMPERIALISTA… Te voy a enfriar personalmente… Tus restos no llegarán al PANTEÓN… PERRO NEOLIBERAL… ESTÁS MUERTO”. Esta es la última que el ilustrador y caricaturista de Página Siete, Abel Bellido, recibió ayer en su cuenta de Facebook. Bellido, además, sufre una intensa campaña de amedrentamiento y persecución en redes sociales.
Ante esta situación, la directora de Página Siete, Isabel Mercado, envió una carta al Ministro de Gobierno, Arturo Murillo.
“Abel ha sido no sólo insultado sino amenazado de muerte en mensajes privados y públicos por personas que no se identifican y que pretenden acallarlo”, detalla la carta, mediante la cual se piden las garantías para el trabajo de nuestro colega, tomando en cuenta que la protección al trabajo de la prensa es un derecho constitucional en Bolivia.
El ilustrador manifiesta que los comentarios cuando publica su trabajo en el muro de su cuenta en Facebook pueden expresar críticas muy hostiles y subidas de tono, pero se limitaba a anular el comentario o bloquear al usuario que le faltaba el respeto; no obstante, hace poco tiempo comenzaron las amenazas de muerte.
“Esto ha sucedido más de una vez y por supuesto genera preocupación e incertidumbre, ya que son personas que crean cuentas falsas para amenazar (…). Te ponen ‘estás a punto de encontrarte con tu creador… personalmente te voy a enfriar’ y ese tipo de intimidación que realmente alarma y uno no se puede mantener indiferente”, indica Bellido.
“Tu muerte será más bonito (sic) que la de los hermanos Terán”, advierte el mismo delincuente, que creó una cuenta de Facebook con el nombre de Francisco Villa, donde suele postear contenidos contra el Gobierno de Jeanine Añez y particularmente contra el ministro Murillo.
Ronald Fbr Mamani Lima también acosa a Bellido en su cuenta de Facebook, con una serie de insultos y amenazas, al igual que otros que también le amenazan de muerte.
“ Uno puede recibir insultos y demás… Pero amenaza tras amenaza preocupa”, afirma Bellido.
Larga trayectoria
- Carrera Bellido tiene más de 17 años de trayectoria y es uno de los caricaturistas más representativos de la actualidad boliviana.
- Premio Es ganador del Premio Nacional de Periodismo en la categoría Caricatura y es uno de los fundadores del periódico Página Siete.
