This Sunday, September 25, 2011, Los Tiempos newspaper from Cochabamba writes about a questionable friendship/alliance that current Bolivian government persists with Iran. Not so long ago, a criminal terrorist that took part in the Argentina bomb attack, who is now Iran’s minister of defense, was invited officially to attend the creation of a military unit “created” by Venezuela and Bolivia: the Alba.
Los Tiempos recalls this week’s UN Assembly, where a meeting from current Bolivian president took place with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iran has consistently supported international terrorism activities and advocated the use and possession of nuclear weapons. In his speech, Ahmadinejad questioned the existence of the Holocaust and 9/11 attack.
Bolivia and Venezuela appear as the only remaining countries in this hemisphere that give support to Iran, Brazil has been taking a step aside wisely.
Bolivian TV news programs showed how the UN “was emptied” at the time the presidents of Iran and Bolivia gave their speeches. We could care less for Iran, what is embarrassing and unfortunate is to see a Bolivian president taking sides with current Iran’s government.
It is also sad to see our president talking about “his priorities” to an empty audience. Bolivia needs to rethink its alliances or friendships and listen to the world. Now that Gaddafi is away, and Chavez illness’ puts him away of the international arena; the only presidents that are speaking to an empty choir are the ones from Iran and North Korea… Bolivia does not need to join or being associated with that sorry end of the international political spectrum.
