21F: A call to mobilize when the IACHR arrives

Pagina Siete reports:

Former President Jorge Tuto Quiroga called to mobilize against the reelection of President Evo Morales, during the public hearings of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), which will be held from February 7 to 16 in the city of Sucre.

“I am asking those of us who want to defend democracy, understanding that the Commission can not touch on issues of the country where the public sessions are held, if it can hear the voice of those who ask that our vote and democracy be respected,” he said.

Likewise, to request the IACHR to raise before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights a request regarding the interpretation of Article 23 of the American Convention on Human Rights, so that it may rule “whether perpetual re-election and tyranny are a human right. They are not, “said Quiroga.

Between February 7 and 16, the capital of Bolivia will host the public hearings of the IACHR; by regulation, the agency does not address issues that are linked to the country where the sessions are held.

Chancellor Diego Pary, consulted on the issue, said that mobilizations are not appropriate, because the renomination of Morales is a subject that has already been decided, as a result “it does not deserve further discussion.”

However, former President Quiroga maintains that Bolivia is a subscriber of the American Convention on Human Rights, recognizes the organs of the inter-American system, and therefore is obliged to accept and accept its decisions.

He insisted that although he can not speak on behalf of the citizen platforms, he called them to jointly speak against the indefinite renomination.

Bolivian Thoughts opinion: Bolivians certainly hold high hopes on the IACHR, despite the lousy job they did with Nicaragua and Venezuela, where literally hundreds of citizens from those countries suffered political persecution. Bolivia does not need to reach those high levels of violence, and casualties. We demand the world’s attention to make sure that the Referendum of 2/21/2016 is to be enforced! evo must finish his term and leave!!
